Time Nick Message 12:53 [MatrxMT] Hey there. I'm working on a main menu and I was wondering how to print the error message when logging on a server but the connection is refused (e.g. wrong password, whitelist). I can't seem to find anything in the docs 12:53 [MatrxMT] It prints in console but I want to show it inside the client 13:35 [MatrxMT] C'mon Europeans! We have a few mods with north american/MUTCD style road signs, but none with Vienna Convention signs?? 13:37 ireallyhateirc I'm going to make some Polish road signs for my game later but that most likely won't go well with MTG, etc. 13:40 [MatrxMT] I forgot the people, is this Perfect City or another? 13:44 ireallyhateirc yes I'm the sole author of Perfect City which is only on codeberg because there's nothing much to see yet 13:45 ireallyhateirc right now I'm mostly sitting in blender doing character design 13:48 ireallyhateirc I'm trying to figure out the art style and featuers of the rig needed for animation 13:48 sfan5 as an european the signs on VE-Creative feel very foreign 13:49 ireallyhateirc though I'm not planning doing 1:1 set of road signs because I'm aiming for a surreal horror 13:49 [MatrxMT] honestly having different competing sign standards on one server could really help create the feeling of going to different places 13:50 [MatrxMT] are you thinking maybe of cursed road signs, like a green stop sign or a traffic light that does invalid colour combinations? 13:52 sfan5 make a place that only uses the bottom of these languages https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f0/Winnipeg_Forks_-_Trilingual_Plaque.jpg 13:53 [MatrxMT] they do have multilingual stop signs with iniktitut 13:54 ireallyhateirc Blockhead256, are these questions directed towards me? 13:54 ireallyhateirc or are they general 13:55 [MatrxMT] directed at you for perfect city 13:56 ireallyhateirc the main character does not have a driving license so to him these signs will be somewhat off 13:56 ireallyhateirc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_signs_in_Poland 13:57 ireallyhateirc I'm going to have this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_signs_in_Poland#/media/File:PL_road_sign_A-30.svg 13:57 ireallyhateirc but with a question mark instead 13:59 [MatrxMT] where does the horror element come into perfect city? being lost and confused? 14:01 ireallyhateirc 1. being lost 2. losing identity 3. world falling apart 4. not being able to tell reality from delusions 5. monsters and other things out of a fever dream 17:24 cheapie sfan5: Visit Bonnthal (on VE-Creative) sometime, they approximate European signage there 17:24 cheapie The "Cityknot" travelnet next to the spawn has that area as an option 17:26 cheapie https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250508_122554.png 17:26 cheapie Kind of a mix in some areas 17:27 [MatrxMT] are those digiline screens? 17:27 cheapie yes 17:27 [MatrxMT] lol 17:27 cheapie At least those use [png now instead of [combine :P 17:28 [MatrxMT] it's uh yeah it's a feature. The superior European signs can be changed at any time! 17:31 cheapie Newer digiscreens (or at least those that have had the image changed semi-recently) also use compression in those PNGs, they used to not 17:32 cheapie The original [png implementation in them was synchronous and used compression level 0 - a few weeks ago I changed it so that it's async and initially compression level 1, but if the image isn't changed for 5 seconds then it spins up another async job to recompress it at level 9 17:33 cheapie The end result being that digiscreens showing static images like that (so long as they were set up after that change) end up just storing the image at compression level 9 18:38 [MatrxMT] Hmm, why not have a transparent digiscreen option too? 18:38 [MatrxMT] I think there are some real transparent displays: TVs 18:39 [MatrxMT] to not troll you too hard it would need to not be transparent when you place it though :P
