Time Nick Message 10:54 ireallyhateirc getting stuff like lineart in Luanti would require shaders and stuff, right? 10:55 ireallyhateirc I think there's a hack where you duplicate all topology, scale it a little to make a shell and then flip normals, enable backface culling and use a dark transparent material for it 11:13 MTDiscord that's for outlines 11:25 ireallyhateirc I heard people refer to that as lineart too 22:20 ireallyhateirc is the Luanti build on F-droid official? 22:20 ireallyhateirc also apparently the playstore link is dead 22:31 MTDiscord F-Droid is as official as any downstream distribution 22:32 MTDiscord also see #luanti-dev for why the playstore link is dead 22:34 MTDiscord the website has been updated to temporarily hide the play link. hopefully it will be back within a couple days when the app is transferred to c55's developer account 22:35 ireallyhateirc I see. Asking because we had a multicraft player on our server and wanted to tell them to get the real thing lol 22:36 ireallyhateirc and that would be easier compared to directing them to F-droid 22:36 rubenwardy hopefully it'll be restored in a few days 22:36 MTDiscord yeah it's unfortunate that google play is so unreliable when it's the only way most people can/want to obtain android apps 22:42 ireallyhateirc just my opinion but if this was my project I'd upgrade LGPLv2.1 to GPLv3 to avoid crappy forks filled with spyware/ads 22:43 MTDiscord life is all about compromise 22:46 ireallyhateirc well, this permissive model has pros and cons, but Blender community works just fine with paid addons that come under GPLv3 so it's not like strong copyleft kills commercial uses altogether 22:46 ireallyhateirc Section 3 of LGPLv2.1 allows for upgrade to GPLv2 or any version later 22:47 ireallyhateirc to gain from the permissive model Luanti needs to become less gamish and more engine-y 22:47 ireallyhateirc then a Godot-esque model would work 22:51 ireallyhateirc LGPLv2.1 will make steam integration easier I guess 22:52 MTDiscord Ah yes, the nuclear option 22:52 MTDiscord DO IT 22:53 MTDiscord https://tenor.com/view/do-it-what-are-you-waiting-for-determined-angry-gif-5247874 22:53 MTDiscord Plus this would be another controversy that might gain free advertising 22:54 ireallyhateirc you mean steam integration or upgrade to GPLv3 ? 22:54 MTDiscord gplv3 22:54 MTDiscord THEY'RE GOING MORE OPEN SOURCE, GET THEM! 22:55 MTDiscord there are now 50 forks of minetest under the lgpl2 license oh the huge manatee 22:56 MTDiscord Put a giant # text on the top of the readme that says "FORK BEFORE WE GO TO GPL4" 22:58 ireallyhateirc even with LGPLv2.1 Multicraft can't update their engine so I doubt GPLv3 would change much 22:59 ireallyhateirc though backporting changes could poison their codebase with GPLv3 lol 23:02 MTDiscord Listen, people are absolutely are insane and companies absolutely do not want to touch gplv3 so it's perfect, it is the nuclear option 23:02 [ you know what companies hate more than GPLv3? AGPLv3 23:02 [ I like AGPLv3 23:03 MTDiscord Instead of people complaining we don't have opengl 1.1 support we can hear about how glpv2 was so much better and we don't have to hear about them missing out on new features because they won't touch the game anymore 23:03 ireallyhateirc I'm probably going to upgrade my luanti game to AGPL soon 23:03 ireallyhateirc I also plan releasing my game commercially also under AGPL 23:04 MTDiscord AGPL would be fairly extreme: Server owners doing whatever patch would have to publicize that. 23:05 MTDiscord Luatic you're supposed to be arguing against the topic 23:06 MTDiscord https://tenor.com/view/cat-kitty-what-shock-meow-gif-20014431 23:06 [ 5.10 was the last good version anyway, before removing support for running without shaders completely destroyed performance 23:06 ireallyhateirc luatic, that prevents people from making proprietary forks of my game provided as a service 23:07 [ luatic: I think they should have to do that, yes 23:07 ireallyhateirc which I imagine big companies could do if/when my FOSS game becomes commercially successful 23:08 ireallyhateirc with AGPL they'd be forced to publish their improvements, which would be a big win for me and the free software community 23:09 ireallyhateirc and being compliant with AGPL is simple, you just have to publish the source code or at least send it to users of the service 23:09 MTDiscord them: "o nuuuu" me: for the LOVE OF TAKE MY CHANGES RIGHT NOW 23:11 ireallyhateirc version 3 GNU licenses are quite forgiving - to regain the license you just need to publish code 23:13 MTDiscord [_: as for shaders, no it's not nearly as simple as that. 23:16 MTDiscord Oh you wrote 1 letter in that shader? 23:16 MTDiscord https://tenor.com/view/its-free-real-sate-gif-7215175 23:26 ireallyhateirc luatic, also with small patches I probably wouldn't care or wouldn't be able to tell the game is non-vanilla (the copyright owner is the only one who can enforce copyright). Though if someone was brewing a huge fork with many features and would refuse to publish the source then I'd simply sue them. I don't work in my free time to empower someone's proprietary services. 23:29 ireallyhateirc And still people would be able to provide paid servers with my game, they'd just need to provide the source code to their users
