Time Nick Message 09:57 BadGuyAlex hello 09:58 BadGuyAlex long time no see, eh? I mean... some of you may recognize me using different nickname 10:07 BadGuyAlex haven't played the game for a... long time so I can't say a lot what is my experience now, but I played it in the past and I wasn't quite happy about the direction the development was going. Many features much needed by the modding community were... well... neglected, to put it mildly. "Pull requests are welcome" devs said. Or worse: wontfix. 10:07 BadGuyAlex But for recent years I've seen some serious development. What happened? The game gained popularity? New developers joined the team? Or is this just my perception? Just time flying fast? 10:09 [MatrxMT] well when were you last active around here? 5.0 was rough, but we've had 14 releases to make things better 10:11 cheapie BadGuyAlex: There's been a trend over the past few releases to give modders more control at the expense of the player, perhaps that's what you're seeing 10:15 BadGuyAlex Tried Minetest in 2011 butat the time it felt like a rough tech demonstration. Tried in 2015 and I was excited at first (hey, it has got Lua scripting now) but then disenchanted (X feature impossible to script, Y information not exposed, feature Z is clearly buggy with easy fix but has to be kept that way for compatibility reasons etc.). Again, 10:15 BadGuyAlex tried somewhere around 2020 - played a little bit, had some fun, stopped playing, moved on. So for now I check from time to time what's new but haven't played since 2020. 10:16 [MatrxMT] so what do you think of the new name? 10:18 BadGuyAlex I'm happy the engine has got its own, proper name. People recognize it. I can search YouTube for Luanti and get gameplays of Luanti, not Minecraft. 11:24 Gry isnt it same 11:24 Gry oh 11:24 Gry i got it now 11:24 Gry i thought you wrote "luanti not minetest" =/ 18:25 Krock this gives lots of vibes: https://codeberg.org/dazzymendez/vbuilder 18:27 Krock EN dash in the mod.conf file 18:28 [MatrxMT] emojis are a big red flag as well because normally you rarely see them 18:29 Krock however, the code does something rarely anyone does: sanity checks. 18:30 Krock though, doxygen comments could be even more helpful to feed the correct values into function arguments 18:33 Krock The LLM does apparently not yet understand that (x and type(x) == whatever) can be simplified to (type(x) == whatever) 18:35 user333_ +1 reason not to use a LLM for programming 18:55 MTDiscord Aloha Krock: "The testserver is restarted" 18:56 sfan5 what are we testing 18:56 sfan5 anything mining related? 18:56 sfan5 we could call it "mine test" 18:59 Krock found a little bug 19:00 Krock just one so far. the formspecs are pretty much input-safe 19:01 MTDiscord https://gitea.your-land.de/your-land/bugtracker/issues/9116 19:10 Krock thanks :) 19:11 Krock the action is to add an item to a specific detached inventory 19:24 MTDiscord Thank YOU. Any way we could support this endeavour? 19:34 Krock oh I just saw that there's actually the source code available 19:36 Krock first question - how can I place an NPC? 19:37 MTDiscord There are spawn eggs. You need not only yl_speak_up, but also npc_talk. Sokomine is the expert on this, she has a server where things are set up 19:39 Krock okay. got an error. althoguh not the one you got. 19:47 Krock what does the "wield" inventory slot do? nothing? @bastrabun 19:48 Krock s/slot/list/ 19:49 Krock I cannot find any uses in those two mods 19:49 MTDiscord In the skin selection part? You can give things to the NPC and the model will show it "in hand" 19:51 MTDiscord Maybe in here https://gitea.your-land.de/Sokomine/npc_talk 19:52 MTDiscord This is the component in worldmods (for dynamic skin addition) 19:54 Krock there's no "Edit skin" button as described in the README... 19:56 MTDiscord Minimum setup is yl_speak_up for the display component, npc_talk_edit for the edit component and npc_talk in worldmods for the "per server" component, inlcuding spawn eggs. At least that's my last snippet of knowledge. I hope Sokomine can explain better 20:01 Krock PM sent to Sokomine 20:02 Krock including a diff to fix the error that I found (which is unlike yours..) 20:03 MTDiscord bugs. the more the merrier.
