Time Nick Message 12:26 mazes_84 I got a problem with luanti and sdl3: accented chars will not display. seems the input is not utf-8 12:26 mazes_84 as a drwback I recompiled with sdl2 and everything is fine 12:30 sfan5 you mean they will not input? 12:41 mazes_84 they input but are displayed wrong 12:41 sfan5 that sounds like they aren't inputting correctly 12:41 mazes_84 yeah 12:42 mazes_84 it's like input is not utf-8 12:42 mazes_84 but it may be part of how sdl3 is compiled on my host 12:43 mazes_84 not sure it's about luanti 12:43 mazes_84 if I remember well it began to be weird after an sdl3 upgrade (not so sure though, everything mixes up in my memory) 12:45 mazes_84 and guess at same time both luanti and sdl were updated 12:59 [MatrxMT] What exactly do you mean by "they input but are displayed wrong"? 13:25 mazes_84 they are displayed with 2 chars like é -> @~ 13:26 mazes_84 not exactly the output I got, but something similar 13:40 mazes_80 sorry I don't use irc bouncer to keep same name: é -> é 13:47 [MatrxMT] Seems like an issue with character encoding (-> Unicode characters got interpreted as ISO-8859-1) 14:17 mazes_84 yes but any idea why ? 14:18 mazes_84 I can even recompile sdl3 if need. gentoo accept user patches when compiling 14:21 mazes_84 ok, so it comes from libsdl3, unrelated to luanti 14:21 mazes_84 sorry for the noise 14:21 mazes_84 I just checked it does same in freeciv-sdl3 14:33 MTDiscord But that means IrrglitchMT is incompatible with SDL3 14:34 mazes_84 I don't think, it must be a local issue, or something related to gentoo package for libsdl3 (which is quite new, less than 1 year ig) 14:39 [MatrxMT] I wanted to say that the conversion between wide strings and UTF-8 could be relevant, but I was not able to reproduce the issue on my computer with `LC_ALL=de_DE.ISO-8859-1` 14:41 mazes_84 as other softwares using sdl3 on my host are impacted the same way, it's not a luanti issue 14:41 sfan5 IME doesn't appear to work with sdl3, but accented chars are fine for me 14:42 mazes_84 thanks all for support 14:42 sfan5 hm, IME doesn't work with sdl2 either 14:42 sfan5 I thought we supported this 14:43 mazes_84 about IME I saw sdl3 has ibus support 14:43 [MatrxMT] IMEs work for me (fcitx5 in my case) 14:44 sfan5 fcitx5 here too, doesn't work 14:44 [MatrxMT] mazes_84: if you want a basic SDL3 test code (in C++): https://paste.debian.net/hidden/833f61e6 14:44 mazes_84 Your requested paste entry '833f61e6' could not be found 14:45 mazes_84 says hidden in url no ? 14:45 sfan5 link appears to work now 14:45 mazes_84 oh yes 14:53 mazes_84 if I use ./test_sdl3 -> é -> é 14:53 mazes_84 however if I use LC_ALL=fr_FR.ISO-8859-1 ./test_sdl3 it's ok 14:56 mazes_84 bit puzzled 14:56 mazes_84 last time I had encoding issues, was about 2003, when I definitely moved all to UTF-8 14:59 MTDiscord Isn't there a way to dynamically load charset scripts ? 15:01 [MatrxMT] Sound like an SDL3 issue then. Although it would be weird if you use a locale with UTF-8 15:02 MTDiscord Check the default fonts too, they are the final stef towards displaying any character. 15:03 [MatrxMT] ggepic64: I do not think it is a font issue 15:04 MTDiscord Okay just have to add compat for SDL3 then 15:05 [MatrxMT] ggepic64: Again: this is an issue in SDL3, not IrrMT 15:08 [MatrxMT] (Also IrrMT does support SDL3) 15:10 [MatrxMT] ggepic64: Also what do you mean exactly by "dynamically loading charset scripts"? 15:25 mazes_84 also works under wayland, just broken under X11. but I'm still sticking to X11 16:03 MTDiscord Isn't LC_LOCALE_ALL a const ? 16:10 [MatrxMT] Afaik you can change it 18:09 MinetestBot 02[git] 04sfan5 -> 03luanti-org/luanti: Build with SDL3 in one of the CI runs 13343a6e0 https://github.com/luanti-org/luanti/commit/343a6e03ef1e0f4deaaeda16d11fba7c224584bf (152026-09-21T15:12:31Z) 23:07 mazes_80 y5nw, sfan5: my problem was related to XMODIFIERS, there was relics from the time I used fcitx IME. Just unsetting XMODIFIERS and everything works smooth é -> é 23:08 mazes_80 so until recent changes and support for IME in sdl3 it worked.
