11:47 red-001 hi ThomasMonroe
11:52 ThomasMonroe hi red
13:17 red-001 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqzUjPchl6Y
13:34 paramat so you were right about saplings https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/issues/1815#issuecomment-313094113
13:38 * twoelk just sees a steampunky picture in his head of paramat timing tree growth with a nice old stopwatch in his hand
13:42 Krock $ git gud
13:42 Krock git: 'gud' is no Git-command. See ' git --help'.
13:42 Krock gamers gonna be sad
13:48 paramat hehe used my 9 year old not-smart-phone
13:50 Krock your 9 year old dumb-phone?!?
14:41 celeron55 "Once sales start dying and a minimum time has passed, I will release the game source code as some kind of open source. I'm not very happy with the draconian nature of (L)GPL, nor do I believe the other licenses have much merit other than to boost the egos of the original authors, so I might just possibly release it all as public domain."
14:41 celeron55 who still remembers this?
14:41 celeron55 i didn't, lol
14:42 celeron55 in 2012 that text was still written on http://www.minecraft.net/about.jsp
14:46 KaadmY Why is there filtering of sorts on the sun/moon textures in Minetest?
14:46 KaadmY Krock: a friend actually added a `git gud` command locally for laughs
14:46 KaadmY As well as `git rekt`
14:47 Krock xD
14:50 Sokomine celeron55: regardless of that - there is mt and it is very enjoyable. granted, it'd be nice to visit some mc servers once, but that doesn't warrant installing a graphics card
14:51 KaadmY Any idea what this is from? 2017-07-05 07:51:17: WARNING[Main]: /!\ You are using old player file backend. This backend is deprecated and will be removed in next release /!\
14:51 KaadmY 2017-07-05 07:51:17: WARNING[Main]: Switching to SQLite3 or PostgreSQL is advised, please read http://wiki.minetest.net/Database_backends.
14:52 KaadmY I get that only on new worlds
14:53 paramat yes i get that too, apparently harmless afaik
14:54 paramat c55 i remember
14:56 paramat filtering on custom sun/moon textures or default sun/moon? what sort of 'filtering'?
15:00 red-001 KaadmY, someone forgot to set new defaults for release
15:00 red-001 thats all
15:01 red-001 it has been fixed since
15:05 Fixer i'm currently enjoying mc beta 1.7.3 online, still has more content than MTG
15:06 KaadmY paramat: the sun and moon textures are blurry
15:06 KaadmY Even though I have all filtering off
15:06 paramat latest MT dev?
15:07 KaadmY https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/292077879057973248/332175680315981826/screenshot_20170705_080644.png
15:07 KaadmY Always been there
15:07 KaadmY Since like 0.4.13
15:07 paramat oh custom textures
15:08 KaadmY Are they scaled up?
15:08 paramat maybe RBA thought blurry was better
15:08 paramat i think these were his addition
15:09 KaadmY As far as I remember they've always been blurry, in Pixture at least
15:09 KaadmY MTG might work correctly
15:09 paramat well MTG has no custom texture so they're drawn differently
15:09 KaadmY Oh right
15:11 paramat maybe RBA thought all custom textures would be hires and chose blurring, oops, best without
15:11 paramat could you open an issue to remind us? that should be changed
15:14 paramat commit was https://github.com/minetest/minetest/commit/f20267862f075cf9cb7a05df3d173499088dca90
15:17 Fixer celeron55: btw you once said mc had worse algorithm of sky darkening when below, seems it is better than in mt now
15:18 Fixer but i may be wrong
15:18 Fixer will try testing it more
15:19 celeron55 Sokomine: yeah; it's just funny how back then one reason against MT was "oh but MC will eventually be open source!"
15:20 paramat 'wicked time of day'!
15:20 paramat i still wonder why we haven't got more devs coming over from MC
15:22 Sokomine maybe they rather gave up on blocky worlds than learn a new language
15:22 Fixer nah
15:22 Fixer it lost its hype
15:29 Krock maybe they can be motivated to switch to us using cookies from the dark side
15:33 Krock Fixer, and MTG will stay lightweight/boring/basic if there are so many different opinions about the future of it
15:37 paramat if someone wants a blurry sun/moon texture they can put the blurriness in the texture itself, then non-blurry becomes possible
15:47 sfan5 red-001: nobody forgot, it's supposed to be this way
15:47 sfan5 the default backend will be set on the next release probably
15:50 lisac Hey paramat, other core devs: https://youtu.be/U_Tn1yaxFu8
15:50 lisac it's a bug in arm inertia
15:50 lisac latest MT
15:52 twoelk I wonder wether some standards would have been possible across blocky games, like we have/had with mc-skins. It would be really nice if textures, models, plants, schematics or whatever could easily be shared between the voxely engines. with an emphesize on >easily<
15:53 Fixer lisac: in very latest? there were two fixes already .___.
15:53 lisac Fixer, very latest
15:53 lisac compiled 20 minutes ago
15:54 Fixer lisac: search for that arm inertia issue and post your bug here I guess %) or open new one
15:54 Fixer twoelk: minecraft is standard
15:55 twoelk a de facto standard that most are carefull to use because nobody knows the plans of ms
15:57 Fixer mc skin support will be nice to have
15:57 Fixer and there are converters for textures/worlds too
15:58 twoelk notch did mention here and there that he didn't mind other programs using his ideas or the standards he used for their own media but this was never formalized so that ms needs not be as relaxed as notch was
15:59 twoelk I don't mean converters but using the same format for stuff
16:03 bigfoot547 Hi tumeninodes and Jordach
16:03 tumeninodes Hi all. Does anyone know if you can edit after "compare & PR"? and if yes, then how?:P
16:03 tumeninodes Hi bigfoot
16:04 bigfoot547 tumeninodes, just make changes to your branch
16:07 Calinou hi
16:07 Calinou sorry to say that, but https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/6099 = https://www.xkcd.com/619/ :P
16:07 tumeninodes bigfoot, I know but..., problem is I have 2 lines which need to be tabbed, but they look perfectly aligned in text editor as well as in zerobrane
16:08 tumeninodes hi Calinou
16:09 tumeninodes and, I could not see that the indents were wrong until I hit "compare & PR"
16:09 tumeninodes Damn You Linus! :P
16:12 bigfoot547 Maybe you have those tabs as 4 spaces
16:13 bigfoot547 I don't understand your situation...
16:14 tumeninodes when I typed in these two lines, using text editor, I typed them in as I normally do. But then, once they are viewed on github, they are back-spaced by almost a full tab.
16:15 tumeninodes I am complete novice regarding indenting :P
16:16 tumeninodes and when I add the file I get to "compare & PR". If I do not select this, I am unable to see my changes to edit before opening a PR. And I am completely CLI impaired
16:17 tumeninodes so I use github for all this (please throw rotten tomatoes)
16:19 bigfoot547 I don't know
16:19 bigfoot547 Maybe github does some stuff to it
16:19 tumeninodes Even though I committed my changes to my own branch, if I then go back to this file, it shows as the original from master branch
16:24 tumeninodes well, thanks for trying bigfoot :D it is appreciated... Sometimes I feel people working on this sort of stuff, make it complicated intentionally (meaning Git and GitHub)
16:24 ThomasMonroe tumeninodes is there a way to override the default mapgen, or create your own?
16:24 tumeninodes one should be able to make edits from the compare/view stage before opening the PR. If the ability is there, I am completely missing it
16:26 tumeninodes override it? Some have created their own, Duane for one.
16:27 ThomasMonroe like i want something similar to Mapgen v7 but i need custom blocks instead
16:29 ThomasMonroe im making a subgame from scratch, without default, so what would the mapgen do without default there?
16:29 tumeninodes mmm, you could go into V7 and change the default nodes out with the nodes you are looking to use, if that is what you mean?
16:30 tumeninodes you would need to replace all calls to default from mapgen and redirect to your base or what ever you will call it
16:30 ThomasMonroe yes, thats what i need, how do i do that?
16:31 tumeninodes But, this might create issues elsewhere... paramat would definitely be a better source for info.
16:31 ThomasMonroe ok thanks
16:32 tumeninodes look at mapgen.lua in the default folder
16:33 tumeninodes Wuzzy may be a good person to ask as well, as I think changes such as this were made for MinClone2
16:44 tumeninodes bigfoot, I figured out my edit problem :P
16:45 bigfoot547 Sorry, I was afk
16:46 tumeninodes It's ok, I was actually mostly talking to myself, outloud
16:47 tumeninodes actually, I need to go afk for a few min
17:11 ThomasMonroe when i add a node to group and i want it to be really hard, is higher numbers mean harder?
17:12 Hijiri higher is softer
17:12 Hijiri I think?
17:12 Hijiri yes, I think that's right
17:12 ThomasMonroe hmm, then why is normal stone this:{cracky=3, stone=1}?
17:14 DS-minetest stone is not about digging
17:14 DS-minetest it's for crafting
17:14 DS-minetest (the stone group i mean)
17:51 * twoelk pokes Shara secretly from his office pc
17:51 Shara :D
17:51 Shara Thank you
17:52 twoelk if I freeze it's because I hide the screen
17:52 Shara No problem. Just so many impersonators around that I like to check people are who they say :)
18:01 Krock twoelk, say your chief a friendly hello from the worker, builder and programmer community of Minetest
18:02 twoelk erm
18:02 Krock jk ;)
18:02 * twoelk hides
18:02 twoelk well actually it's past working hours anyways so ...
18:04 Krock well, depends on the working cycles. some (few) people might work during the night
18:07 * Shara has been mad enough to do that before
18:12 twoelk I've sort of worked project related most of the time - that means working night and day until the job is done and in between projects a few days off.
18:14 twoelk the last two weeks where not normal - because I did indeed had to keep to normal hours as I was tending the office in the first week and was visiting several sites in the second week
18:16 twoelk visiting our projects was nice for a change - wandering high on roofs all day and arguing with the seagulls how close they will let me to their nests and chicks
18:16 ThomasMonroe is it possible to override the sky ?
18:16 twoelk yes
18:16 twoelk depends on what you want to do
18:17 ThomasMonroe make it totally black
18:17 Shara ThomasMonroe: that is easy enough
18:17 twoelk make a black skybox :-D
18:17 ThomasMonroe how would i do that?
18:17 Shara https://github.com/Ezhh/under_sky
18:17 Shara That makes it black below -100
18:18 Shara You can probably pull out the bits needed to make it black everywhere
18:18 Shara Do you simply want it black always, everywhere, for every player, or something more complicated?
18:18 ThomasMonroe for every player everywhere
18:19 Shara Then you need to do an on join check, with something like: player:set_sky(000000, "plain", {})
18:20 ThomasMonroe ok
18:20 Shara If you get stuck, feel free to ask
18:20 Shara Doing a couple of things at the moment, but could make it for you later if you need
19:17 tenplus1 hi folks
19:19 Shara Hi 11
19:19 tenplus1 hi Shara :P
19:19 tenplus1 what's new?
19:22 Shara Not much.
19:23 Shara Still making tiny changes to server after the update
19:23 tenplus1 tweaking it until perfect :)
19:27 kaeza hi tenplus1
19:28 Krock hi kaeza
19:28 tenplus1 hi ka
19:28 Krock hi tenplus1
19:28 tenplus1 hi kaeza :P
19:28 tenplus1 hi krock
19:28 kaeza heyo Krock
19:28 tenplus1 sorry, kb needs cleaned :PPP
19:28 Krock M$ Knowledge Base?
19:28 kaeza ha
19:28 tenplus1 that too :P
19:29 Krock git clean
19:29 kaeza I know that feel. the whole left side of my keyboard barely works
19:29 Krock and the other doesn't work?
19:29 kaeza yep :<
19:29 Krock h y gd thats awf
19:31 Krock tryg t sate a haf way wrng eybard
19:31 Krock ;)
19:32 * Krock gives kaeza a bunch of Y2k-keyboards with PS/2 connectors
19:32 tenplus1 *want*
19:33 Krock you're sandboxing your conversations. it's only a virtual keyboard for now
19:33 tenplus1 lol
19:33 Krock break the sandbox to get a real keyboard
19:33 kaeza Krock, my keyboard is from that time :P
19:34 kaeza PS/2
19:34 tenplus1 http://i.imgur.com/EOcH2LC.jpg natural structure found on xanadu
19:34 Krock kaeza, what do you think? mine too :P
19:34 kaeza the old one was an IBM one that didn't even have "super" keys
19:34 lisac https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/6102
19:35 kaeza nevermind those useful media control keys
19:35 Krock not everybody needs a programmable LED backlight for they text entry hardware
19:35 tenplus1 lisac: that's a nasty bug
19:36 Krock tenplus1, I can see a light artefact
19:36 tenplus1 yeh, those still happen krock... voxelmanip still brings them
19:36 lisac Hi tenplus1
19:36 lisac it seems so
19:36 tenplus1 o/
19:36 lisac it stops after reconnecting
19:36 Krock lisac, please dump your compiler, OS or PPA source into that issue
19:37 Krock also: commit hash of your build
19:38 kaeza https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/48/IBM_Model_M.png/1200px-IBM_Model_M.png
19:39 kaeza man, I loved the "clack" sound keys did when pressed
19:39 * Krock checks his real keyboard inventory for a similar one
19:41 Krock IBM? check. Color? black. check. Super key missing? test failed
19:41 tenplus1 ooh, I have one of those I think with a huge din plug
19:42 lisac Krock, I think you can see it in the title
19:42 lisac of the window
19:42 lisac on the video
19:42 Krock me too - for my 90's box
19:42 lisac        g++ (GCC) 7.1.1 20170528
19:42 Krock lisac, more handy to have it in text for as an overview in the issue body
19:42 lisac wait I'll place it into issue
19:42 lisac k
19:42 Krock thanks :)
19:44 Krock tenplus1, any idea how these plugs are called? I have no plan. The older mice used RS232/COM connectors
19:44 tenplus1 the old connector was a 5-pin DIN
19:45 tenplus1 then ps/2, then usb
19:45 lisac updated
19:45 tenplus1     you can get a din -> ps.2 adaptor thankfully
19:46 Krock recently bought a PATA (IDE) to SATA adapter for my HDDs. Such things are great for re-using old but working hardware instead of replacing it all
19:46 tenplus1 yeah, I still have an old 120gb WD EIDE hard-drive with usb adaptor to read it :D
19:47 Krock ah yeah, got that too, but it's usable for inserting into a computer
19:47 Krock i.e. into the case for daily use
19:48 Krock *unusable
20:06 tumeninodes thinking I could make a few bucks here selling my old computer stuff
20:06 Sokomine not sure if an ide drive is still of use for today (except for copying it over)
20:07 tumeninodes or for a door stop
20:07 * Sokomine throws an old 386er at tumeninodes
20:07 tenplus1 hi Sokomine
20:07 tenplus1 hi tumeninodes
20:07 tumeninodes OUCH
20:08 tumeninodes hi Sokomine, hi tenplus1
20:08 * Jordach autistically screeches
20:08 Jordach shitposting in this channel
20:08 tenplus1 ?
20:08 tenplus1 hi Jordach
20:09 tumeninodes I got rid of a bunch of old stuff a few years ago but could only get rid of for free
20:09 tumeninodes hi Jordach
20:09 * tenplus1 has thrown away WAN fibre routers
20:09 Sokomine er, yes, i'm afraid they where a bit heavy....
20:09 * Sokomine apologizes to tumeninodes
20:09 tumeninodes it's ok, I needed another bump anyway
20:10 Sokomine Jordach: just got the coordinate transformation running for mg_villages. that deserves a bit friendly spam here i hope :)
20:11 Sokomine at least mt characters are relatively hardy and can endure a lot :-)
20:12 tumeninodes I keep wondering how MT might run (if at all) on my old HP pavilion a810n, stock with XP
20:13 Jordach i got 4fps on a 2000s Dell
20:13 tumeninodes ?!
20:13 Jordach Intel Celeron Mobile
20:13 Jordach pre Netburst
20:14 tumeninodes this HP tank has a whoppin 512mb pc3200RAM
20:15 tenplus1 lolol
20:15 tumeninodes 3300+ AMD Athlon 64 processor
20:15 tenplus1 nice... I use to have an Athlon 2400XP
20:15 tumeninodes I live for AMD
20:16 Sokomine wow :-)
20:16 tenplus1 hi thomas
20:16 tumeninodes AMD2 should be making a comeback any time
20:16 tumeninodes hi ThomasMonroe
20:17 tumeninodes so if Jordach got 4fps, I should get at least..... 3
20:17 ThomasMonroe hi ten
20:17 tenplus1 I'd lvoe to play with one of the new AMD systems
20:17 ThomasMonroe hi tumen
20:18 Jordach tumeninodes, this was a year 2000 machine
20:18 Jordach 256mb of ram
20:18 Jordach it was struggling to run goddamn XP
20:18 Jordach let alone MT
20:18 tumeninodes oh, so I'd be able to totally out benchmark you
20:19 tenplus1 it's possible to get xp down to 64mb memory usage
20:19 tumeninodes what, the boot screen? :P
20:19 tenplus1 no, the whole desktop :P
20:20 tenplus1 I've done it before
20:20 tumeninodes My XP install on the HP is still as good a new... (never seen the web)
20:20 tenplus1 had a mini 8" toshiba mini laptop with 256mb memory and had it running all sorts :P
20:20 tumeninodes "the web... of lies:
20:21 red-001 tenplus1, micro xp or something?
20:21 tenplus1 nope, just optimized standard XP by disabling certain services
20:21 tenplus1 and a few registry tweaks :D
20:22 Krock MicroXP vs DSL
20:22 tumeninodes I'll make people cringe.. I still have an Apple G4 PowerMac OSX jaguar (rrar), and several G3 iMacs with OS9. All still work flawlessly-ish
20:23 tenplus1 ehehe nice
20:23 Krock already crying near position 'Apple'
20:23 tumeninodes ha
20:23 ThomasMonroe ive got an old Panasonic CF-29 Toughbook
20:23 tenplus1 this was my Xp desktop: http://img13.deviantart.net/1c23/i/2009/158/1/e/bond_girl_desktop_by_tenplus1.jpg
20:23 tenplus1 running bbLean (blackbox0
20:23 tumeninodes those are awesome for calling fire grids in a hostile field thomas
20:23 ThomasMonroe nice
20:24 ThomasMonroe fire grids?
20:24 Krock tenplus1, that looks somewhat 98s
20:24 Krock with the theme hype
20:24 tumeninodes is that the vomit theme? :D
20:24 tenplus1 was Windows XP SP3 running bbLean instead of explorer and 7-zip as file manager :D
20:24 Krock xD
20:25 tenplus1 lower than 80mb memory usage on a fully working desktop
20:25 tumeninodes Thomas, where to drop da bombz
20:25 ThomasMonroe oh yeah thats right
20:26 tumeninodes tenplus1, yeh but, what happens when you want to do more than look at the desktop?
20:26 tenplus1 it worked fine, had firefox for browsing, xmplay for music, photofiltre for bitmap editing and mirc :D
20:26 tumeninodes actually, I think XP was possibly the last decent thing MS has or will ever do
20:27 tenplus1 sadly yeah... it pains me to say but I liked XP
20:27 tenplus1 was the last good Os you could customize and have a little freedom with
20:27 tenplus1 it quickly went down hill from there
20:27 Krock M$ Windows is like git bisect: last good: XP, first bad: Vista
20:27 tumeninodes me too, is why I never exposed this baby to the web
20:28 tumeninodes Vista was a bondo OS... just patch over everything and ship it
20:28 tenplus1 *shudder*
20:29 Krock Vista users have fainted. Ship anyway? [Ok]
20:29 tumeninodes MS has the $ and the means to literally abost everything and start from scratch again, but won't
20:30 ThomasMonroe i have a friend from church whos still has a vista computer
20:30 tumeninodes *r
20:30 Krock oh my gosh, is it the holy jesus?
20:30 tenplus1 would be nice if m$ would join the linux revolution andmake their own port
20:30 tumeninodes ... Satan
20:30 Krock wow. even better.
20:30 ThomasMonroe huh?
20:31 tumeninodes Jesus would never touch Vista
20:31 Krock tenplus1, they're already trying to merge with Linux in some parts. starting with powershell
20:31 ThomasMonroe He'd probly fix it XD
20:31 ThomasMonroe or trash it
20:31 tumeninodes no way, everything MS "joins" they steal or take over
20:31 tenplus1 and quickly removed it in Windows 10 S...
20:31 Krock fixing it is crazy. doing from scratch is more intelligent there
20:31 tenplus1 they want you to pay for the privelage of using another os under winblows
20:32 tumeninodes they don't "want".., the "know" people will pay.... always, and repeatedly
20:32 Krock heh, as long virtualbox is kept free... ;)
20:32 tenplus1 which is why I went to linux/debian/ubuntu after xp... it never got any better
20:32 tenplus1 Qemu is free
20:33 tumeninodes ok, VirtualBox is cool
20:33 tumeninodes I went from Windows to Solaris :P
20:33 tumeninodes ... and then Linux
20:35 tenplus1 ever tried QNX ?
20:35 tumeninodes Solaris10 though, I never had a Sparc
20:35 tumeninodes ? no (duckduckgoing)
20:36 tenplus1 Qnx ran from a single 1.344mb floppy into a full desktop with web browser :) was amazing at the time
20:36 tumeninodes oh nvm... Blackberry killed it
20:37 tumeninodes I played checkers from a floppy disc once
20:37 tumeninodes :D
20:38 tumeninodes I got into computers late... so most I have done and was new to me was already overfilling landfills
20:39 tenplus1 heh... my old Commodore 16/plus 4 has a 5 1/4 floppy which was bloody huge... was fun
20:39 tumeninodes I do remember the kid next door to me, would write little programs on a keyboard, and everything would save to a cassette tape in a tape recorder
20:40 tumeninodes three days of typing to show me a stick figure walk across a screen the size of a piece of bread
20:41 tenplus1 and magazines you would by where you had to type in basic to input a game and play it :P
20:41 tumeninodes haha
20:41 Krock we're 55 forks away of being better than systemd
20:42 Krock in the meanwhile 650 more likes for Minetest
20:42 tumeninodes .... sorry..., I just threw up, watch where you step folks
20:43 tumeninodes mmm hmm, and imagine how many more thousands will come... with stair corners.... ; )
20:43 tumeninodes sorry, had too
20:44 Krock        minetest != minetest_game
20:45 * tenplus1 already uses Stairs Redo (corners, inv corners and slopes)
20:46 tumeninodes :)
20:46 tumeninodes I like the slopes
20:47 tenplus1 so many kewl builds using all of those :D
20:49 tumeninodes Yep, saw the cool screens. Oh, quick question. Could a mob be made to move similar to a hockey puck? and bounce off walls, etc.?
20:50 tenplus1 you can override mob with do_custom function to make it act that way, yes... but to do that you'd be easier just making a hockey puck entity
20:51 tumeninodes that's what I was getting around too :P
20:52 tumeninodes I've been thinking how cool it would be, to be able to have a hockey game in MT
20:52 tenplus1 hi fixer
20:52 tenplus1 we already have soccer mod :) why not hockey :D
20:52 tenplus1 and mesecons or basic_machines can detect entity for score :P
20:52 Fixer football mod*
20:53 tumeninodes why am I unaware of a soccer and football mods?
20:53 tumeninodes the score keeping is a good idea
20:54 tumeninodes would have to be floor hockey though... (no sliding) yet
20:54 tumeninodes but what about using continuous move setting, and speed up acceleration?
20:55 tenplus1 check forum for soccer ball mod and see how that's done :) is pretty good... can be changed to puck
20:56 tumeninodes it's kaeza's :)
20:56 tenplus1 ehe, I changed it slightly to remove get_node
20:57 tumeninodes ok, THAT's cool!
20:58 tumeninodes that kinda stuff really needs to be promoted more
20:58 kaeza I think there's a more recent version by Calinou. not sure what's changed, though
20:58 tumeninodes I didn't even know it existed
20:58 tumeninodes hi kaeza. I'll check
20:58 kaeza it was fun seeing my balls fly away while it was in development
20:58 kaeza <_<
20:59 tumeninodes -_-
20:59 tenplus1 hahaha
20:59 tenplus1 we had a full soccer stadium on Xanadu mk.2 was impressive... many players use to play there
21:00 tumeninodes seriously, promote.... more.... frequently... bump
21:02 Jordach tumeninodes, tell the other shitposters to go here boards.4chan.org/pol/
21:03 tenplus1 lol
21:03 tenplus1 nite all
21:03 tenplus1 o/
21:03 tumeninodes nite
21:04 tumeninodes Jordach? other shitposters?
21:07 Jordach you know who i mean
21:08 Krock Jordach, shadilay shadilay oh noo
21:09 Krock used to be /pol/ exclusive (PEPE)
21:09 tumeninodes confused, am I considered a shit poster or something?
21:10 sofar do you want people to answer that question?
21:10 tumeninodes really? Sure, I do now
21:10 sofar well, anyone who frequents a forum is technically a shitposter, including me
21:11 tumeninodes ha
21:11 Jordach just look at the offtopic
21:12 tumeninodes Actually, now you're here sofar, do you have blend file for the fence gates?
21:12 Jordach check github
21:12 Jordach jeeeeza
21:12 sofar that's a good one. If you frequent /offtopic/ you're definitely likely to be a shitposter...
21:13 sofar I've got all the blends for all the work I've done
21:13 sofar didn't I upload it somewhere?
21:13 Jordach https://www.reddit.com/r/FAT32peoplehate/
21:13 Jordach its not what you think
21:14 tumeninodes not sure, I know the obj is in the file. But, I was interested in giving different materials to the gate and posts, and can't be done with obj
21:15 Krock Jordach, I got what I expected. Fat32.
21:15 sofar you can import obj back into blender though
21:15 sofar and just work from there
21:15 sofar so there's no real need for a .blend file
21:15 Jordach tumeninodes, think of the materials as each singular face
21:15 Jordach top, botton, front, back, left, right
21:16 Jordach IIRC, that was the combination for nodeboxes
21:16 tumeninodes I attempted that Jordach, but I had to have done something wrong. Once you click on the bottom face of the gate, it selects a face on both posts as well
21:17 Jordach https://jordach.net/Images/emoji/thinking.png
21:17 sofar you need to re-UVmap anyway if you're going to add another material
21:17 tumeninodes I thought obj is same as a raster file. 3d version of png jpeg to SVG
21:17 sofar no
21:17 sofar obj is all vectors
21:18 sofar just open one in a text editor
21:18 tumeninodes hmmm, I'll have to give it another shot then. thank you
21:21 tumeninodes I think it might be cool if people can take a fence gate and set textures to post and the gate individually. I have one which is granite posts with wooden gate. So hopefully I will be able to do this with the obj.
21:22 tumeninodes does the model need to be, or can it be ungrouped first? I was trying to find info to do that as well but only found vague info. sorry for all the questions
21:22 sofar obviously this is entirely reasonable and technically trivial to do
21:22 Jordach tumeninodes, git gud
21:23 tumeninodes well not to someone who is not experienced
21:23 sofar you're basically saying "I don't know how to use blender"
21:23 Jordach http://i.imgur.com/gySzgs1.png
21:23 sofar kek
21:23 tumeninodes I can use blender but limited
21:23 Jordach http://i.imgur.com/bHO9rmv.png
21:23 sofar Jordach: "fucking casuals"
21:24 sofar tumeninodes: no worries, blender can be ... incomprehensible
21:24 sofar heck I just know the basics myself
21:24 sofar anyway, you need to know how to assign materials
21:24 sofar so I suggest finding a video tutorial on that
21:24 Jordach <dr_eggman>GET A LOAD OF THIS</dr_eggman>
21:24 Jordach https://jordach.net/Images/BlenderStuff/principle_2.png
21:25 Jordach if anyone asks, there's subsurface scattering enabled
21:27 tumeninodes I've done material assigning. When I attempted with the fencegate I ran into that issue though. Selecting the bottom face of the lowest gate arm, then selected two faces (one on each post)
21:27 Fixer Jordach: :thinking_rotating_emoji:
21:27 tumeninodes anyway, I'll have another try and see if I can figure it out, if not I'll rebuild them from scratch
21:28 Jordach Fixer, https://media.tenor.com/images/4b7399689d7c8d618b7ea21bcec6be6d/tenor.gif
21:28 Fixer Jordach: such 3d...
21:28 Fixer you can watch 3 things...
21:29 Fixer flowing water, sunset and animated 3d thinking emoji
21:29 tumeninodes sofar, "incomprehensible" .., yes, it has actually gotten more so over the years. Anyway, thanks
