00:16 IhrFussel Nobody could or wanted to answer my question... Will it work if you simply add a non-ASCII char to this list of chars to allow that one as usernames? I mean could the engine and lua handle it? https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/src/player.h#L32
00:16 paramat oh that
00:17 paramat no idea, the forum poster should just insist on non-thai usernames
00:18 IhrFussel I wonder if it would work with German umlauts (ä, ö, ü)
00:18 IhrFussel And ß (ss)
00:18 sfan5 IhrFussel: that string is most likely searched via strchr which doesn't do any non-ascii stuff
00:19 sfan5 so you'd have to rewrite several places that handle player names
00:19 sfan5 it will probably work then, though most lua mods will assume that player names are ascii-only
00:20 IhrFussel Yeah the mods are an entirely different second problem... so it's not worth it even if it would be essential to someone to allow them

02:29 rubenwardy What's the opinion on allowing mods which have telemetry to CDB?
02:30 rubenwardy specifically when it's no user information, but stuff like what they did with the mod and how far they progressed
02:32 tumeninodes if it cannot collect user information and cannot be hacked to do so... then why should there be any problem with it? concern is understandable though
02:34 rubenwardy see #minetest
02:34 tumeninodes wait... is this that mod the Russians made? :P
02:40 tumeninodes I see nothing wrong with the individuals reason for using it but, serious consideration in the way of whether and how easily the mod can be modified to be malicious is required
02:42 tumeninodes definitely something a user would have to have an option to opt in or not
02:46 rubenwardy why is it so freaking hard to open a URL without shell injection
02:46 rubenwardy argh
05:24 IhrFussel I got a potential bot player on my server
05:25 IhrFussel Walks around randomly, punching air lots of times ... doesn't run from monsters, doesn't try to punch them ... when I tp them to a closed box they don't try to exit it ... they don't react to other players' actions
05:25 IhrFussel Kicking them results in them rejoining after 30 secs
05:47 ChimneySwift those aren't uncommon
05:48 ChimneySwift hometown used to get 10-20 of those at a time

14:32 IhrFussel Looks like nodetimers sometimes can get stuck?
14:33 IhrFussel One player on my server complains about their cucumbers not growing past stage 3 (final is 4)

14:57 Krock insanepeopleminecraft
15:31 rdococ notch himself is insane
15:32 rdococ minetest is better in nearly every aspect - flexibility, speed (at least in my case), and the advertising for it
15:42 IhrFussel Is it possible that nodetimers get stuck? Or is my map corrupted?
15:52 Calinou rdococ: I remember someone telling me years ago in Minetest "why are you here playing a cheap alternative if you have Minecraft?"
15:52 calcul0n IhrFussel, i'd say it's possible but unlikely :)
15:53 calcul0n did you try to just dig and replant some cucumbers?
15:53 IhrFussel After digging and replanting at the exact ame spot it grew to stage 4
15:55 calcul0n so probably some random and very rare bug, i wouldn't worry too much about it
16:00 rdococ Minecraft is laggier, less flexible, less extensible, costs money, has a way more annoying playerbase, was created by a racist anti-semite and is now owned by one of the largest corporations in the world.
16:00 rdococ so, yeah, there's no point in playing it
16:04 jas_ lmfao
16:04 jas_ nodetimers break sometimes perhaps? i think so.
16:16 Fixer rdococ: some dudes responded, one said it was barebones, no good survival package, other was dissapointed
16:16 jas_ "you get what you pay for" ?
16:16 rdococ I guess mods don't exist
16:16 jas_ *\:D/*
16:20 calcul0n hmm, there could be racist people in MT dev team, i wouldn't stop playing it because of that :)
16:21 rubenwardy O_O
16:22 rubenwardy here's the result of a fun[tm] political quiz I did: https://i.rubenwardy.com/JibLm.jpg
16:23 Calinou it's true Minecraft has been expensive for a while now (€24), and it's never on sale
16:23 Calinou the only time there ever was a "sale" was when you got two copies for the price of one, in August 2011 to celeberate Notch's wedding
16:24 Calinou rubenwardy: [Communistcraft intensifies]
16:24 aerozoic So anybody have suggestions for copy cat servers? My server: UGX Realms. Copycat: UGX server
16:24 rubenwardy Im not authoritarian
16:24 rubenwardy aerozoic: ask sfan5, that sort of thing is confusing and may result in it being removed
16:25 aerozoic ok thanks rubenwardy
16:26 rubenwardy https://i.rubenwardy.com/xQ73r.png
16:26 rubenwardy Calinou ^
16:26 rubenwardy https://www.politicalcompass.org/
16:26 rubenwardy obviously it's just an online test
16:26 aerozoic sfan5, I just noticed a copycat server. My server is UGX Realms and the copycat is UGX Server.
16:27 rubenwardy have you tried contacting the owner first?
16:28 aerozoic I literally just noticed it.
17:06 sfan5 try contacting the owner first, then
17:06 rubenwardy tip: /admin on the server
17:15 Shara aerozoic: I've had this happen twice, once with each of my servers. Neither copycat did very well, and you'll probably find the same thing.
17:16 Shara (One was a direct copycat, Pink Cat instead of Red Cat, and the other was a little more subtle, but tried to match all my mods and so on)
17:19 rdococ Calinou: if you think *that's* Communistcraft, you haven't seen my results yet ;)
17:21 rdococ this is from september 2018, but my views haven't shifted much since then: https://i.imgur.com/HstNVVh.png
17:21 rdococ (it's also a different quiz)
17:38 aerozoic hi Shara, I pretty much agree that is the likely outcome. Just never dealt with it so i'm just looking for suggestions. I'll attempt to contact the owner today.
18:06 Shara aerozoic: Odds are a server where the owner can't come up with anything better than copying someone else isn't going going to be managed very well or offer anything unique long term, so I'd suggest asking them to change name if you can get in touch with them easily, but otherwise trying not to be too bothered.
18:46 paramat if you're referring to dec 6th, notch wasn't being anti-semitic, which is completely clear from reading his tweets. he was just bizarrely accused of that by idiot extremist SJWs. (i certainly don't align with his political views though)
19:02 BuckarooBanzai hi all
19:03 BuckarooBanzai I rewrote my previous realtime mapserver to a new, more portable and less bloated language. I do need testers though, the only setup i have is my linux x86_64 box...
19:03 BuckarooBanzai Feel free to point out any issues: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=21999
19:03 rubenwardy he's still a dick though
19:04 BuckarooBanzai It currently only works for the sqlite backend (map.sqlite)
23:31 rubenwardy is there a technology for network attached monitors?
23:37 sofar you can do USB, and therefore usb redirection over network, I think
