04:16 fluxionary is the sandbox's access documented anywhere outside the code? it just occurred to me that it generally can write to the world folder, which is a common place to put minetest.conf...
04:37 fluxionary seems like i can't even load the file via `Settings`, that's a good start
04:43 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Putting minetest.conf in the world dir ... holy crap, people do that? 😅
04:45 fluxionary seems that i don't have even read access to the file, but i'll dig into why, tomorrow. almost sleeping.
04:45 fluxionary the name of the settings file is technically arbitrary, i know at least one major server where it's not called "minetest.conf"
04:48 fluxionary then again, even if game-centric files are protected, there's multiple mods that require their own conf files, and no way to partition access to those
04:49 fluxionary while i'm on the subject, it bothers me that there's no good easy to create a mod that requires API keys which aren't accessible by other mods
04:50 fluxionary i.e. minetest.conf lets everyone see mod-specific keys
07:43 luk3yx MinetestBot: tell fluxionary MT should block access to minetest.conf if it's in the world directory (https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/f9b1176fa9652cd0188c44cbb9416b0668bf55ff/src/script/cpp_api/s_security.cpp#L516-L520)
07:44 luk3yx !tell fluxionary MT should block write access to minetest.conf if it's in the world directory (https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/f9b1176fa9652cd0188c44cbb9416b0668bf55ff/src/script/cpp_api/s_security.cpp#L516-L520)
07:44 MinetestBot luk3yx: I'll pass that on when fluxionary is around

15:02 Guest54 omg i just learned you can do SMIL animations in favicons https://research.exoticsilicon.com/articles/replying_to_comments
15:02 Guest54 did anyone ever made an animated version of the minetest svg icon?
15:04 MTDiscord <ROllerozxa> wow, animated SVG favicons?
15:05 Guest54 look at the linked page
15:05 MTDiscord <ROllerozxa> yes, that's what I did
15:06 Guest54 SVG is truly one of the most underrated standards
15:06 MinetestBot fluxionary: Apr-14 07:44 UTC <luk3yx> MT should block write access to minetest.conf if it's in the world directory (https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/f9b1176fa9652cd0188c44cbb9416b0668bf55ff/src/script/cpp_api/s_security.cpp#L516-L520)
15:07 Guest54 i think at one point chrome even wanted to deprecate SVG animations since they didn't “get” it, but it seems they were discourage (a classic case of: people who provide a tool for a data format do not understand how it is used in practice)
15:09 Guest54 ROllerozxa did you know you can do animated displacement mapping in SVG? http://daten.dieweltistgarnichtso.net/src/svg%20displace/displace.svg
15:13 Guest54 i find this very cute https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/ba/Toy_train_SMIL.svg
15:14 Guest54 (also look at the source code, it's tiny)
15:41 Blockhead256[m] no animated favicon in firefox for me
15:41 Blockhead256[m] oh nvm it's so subtle
15:44 Guest54 yeah it's cute

19:42 independent56 Why exactly was stacks banned from the forum?p
19:43 independent56 Is it their extremely verbose posting style?
19:43 rubenwardy low quality comments and necroposting, it was a temp ban
19:44 independent56 ok
19:44 independent56 Yeah, i agree that their comments were low qualityh and sent them a PM about it
19:45 independent56 It's halarious they're evading a tempban, but that would be average considering they seem to have the brain characteristics of 14 year old me.

21:03 learnOPENtechBEC Greetings all, I'm pretty new to Minetest. Trying to set it up on my own cloud server. I do have it running based on the docs I found online to run it in a docker-compose file in Portainer. Right now I want this to be a private test server for myself and family. Once I learn what I'm doing I might spin up another server for others.
21:05 learnOPENtechBEC I see the Command line info here: https://wiki.minetest.net/Command_line
21:05 learnOPENtechBEC But I'm not quite sure where to put those in in my docker-compose file, or even how they all work.
21:05 learnOPENtechBEC Can anyone help point me to more complete documentation on how to host your own minetest server, secure it, install other mods, etc.
21:07 MTDiscord <ROllerozxa> https://wiki.minetest.net/Setting_up_a_server
21:09 learnOPENtechBEC which is how I did get as far as I did
21:09 learnOPENtechBEC MTDiscord: Thank you MTDiscord, I have been through that one, it just don't have much on how to take that info and put it in the docker-compose file
21:09 learnOPENtechBEC I guess I can just keep trying random things spinning up and down the server to test them out
21:12 sfan5 the docker way is a bit different since it doesn't allow you configure the command line params
21:12 learnOPENtechBEC Hmmm
21:13 learnOPENtechBEC ` - "CLI_ARGS=--gameid minetest --port 30000" #optional `
21:13 sfan5 well, I don't know where you found your docker-compose file
21:13 learnOPENtechBEC that is one line under minetest: > environment: > Was thinking I could just add -this -that -randomthing
21:14 sfan5 IIRC we merely have an official docker container (albeit with few docs)
21:14 learnOPENtechBEC sfan5: lol, come to think of it nor do I! Let me see if I can find that
21:15 learnOPENtechBEC yeah looks like pretty much this one: https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/minetest
21:15 MTDiscord <Warr1024> There are a few viable docker containers for MT out there. For servers, linuxservers.io has one that I used for quite a while. I published my own, which is more stripped down. I think BuckarooBanzay also published one, which PandoraBox may be based on.
21:16 MTDiscord <Warr1024> The lsio one worked pretty well, but (1) it's a bit complicated internally, with lots of wrapper scripts, (2) they're not slow to update but they're just not as fast as I like, and (3) it ships with MTG, which I find mildly offensive :-D
21:17 learnOPENtechBEC oh? ...MTG? mindtest grandma's! ?
21:18 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Magic The Gathering. Majorie Taylor Greene. Meeting.
21:18 MTDiscord <Warr1024> minetest_game
21:18 learnOPENtechBEC hahah gotcha
21:18 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Hmm, somebody needs to actually publish a mindtest_game now, just for maximum confusion.
21:19 learnOPENtechBEC ah yes, the "minetest game" official "game" is just the world without animals/mobs so you can dig but not really build or make anything else correct?
21:20 MTDiscord <Warr1024> "without animals/mobs" isn't my primary complaint, but yeah, that game I tried to make interesting for years before I finally gave up and started from scratch.
21:21 learnOPENtechBEC oh yeah? what direction did you go
21:21 MTDiscord <Warr1024> Ironically it might actually be more feasible to make it interesting with mods today, since it's stopped being a moving target so much, but there were too many decisions in the game anyway that took more work to reverse than just starting over.
21:21 MTDiscord <Warr1024> I went the NodeCore direction.
21:22 learnOPENtechBEC ah good point
21:34 MinetestBot      02[git] 04rubenwardy -> 03minetest/minetest: Update settingtypes (#13428) 135cd6a22 https://github.com/minetest/minetest/commit/5cd6a22dd3b4738c89e436aedb88afb5cf44c9d8 (152023-04-14T21:32:25Z)
23:34 muurkha learnOPENtechBEC: you can build and make things in the "minetest game"
23:35 muurkha I've spent a fair bit of time playing it in different versions, including quite a bit of time with no extra mods
23:36 muurkha I think it's more fun with some mods
23:36 muurkha btw, learnOPENtechBEC, MTDiscord is a bot that bridges this chat to the proprietary Discord chat system
23:38 Fleckenstein I don't really understand the issue with bridging public channels
23:39 muurkha in the super plain vanilla minetest game you can collect wood, dig, build houses, swim (and possibly drown), build boats, explore different biomes, plant tree saplings for tree farming, explore caves (and possibly fall to your death), cultivate apples and blueberries for food
23:39 muurkha gradually progress from wood tools to stone tools to bronze tools to steel tools to mese tools
23:40 muurkha by default food is only useful for curing damage sustained from falling or near-drowning or eating poisonous mushrooms
23:40 muurkha oh you can also cultivate brown mushrooms in the dark
23:40 muurkha for food
23:40 muurkha or red ones for decoration
23:41 muurkha oh and you can cultivate flowers too
23:42 muurkha range far and wide to seek out the flowers you like, bring them home to cultivate, then use them for dye
23:42 muurkha oh, and cotton and wheat, those are also in the base game as things you can cultivate
23:42 muurkha you can build ovens and bake bread and make a bed out of the cotton (and I think some red dye from a rose)
23:43 muurkha I'd forgotten that wheat wasn't from the extra farming mod we usually use
23:44 muurkha and then you can do architectural exploration with the built-in materials, which is pretty fun
23:45 muurkha you can build islands in the sky and plant trees on them, or undersea cities, or subterranean cities
23:45 muurkha oh and there are dungeons with chests in MTG
