20:46 sfan5 I guess nobody complaining that dynamic shadows don't work on their android device is a good sign?
20:46 sfan5 or maybe nobody really uses android dev builds at all
20:52 sfan5 should we aim to release before FOSDEM?
20:52 sfan5 this would mean starting feature freeze on 14th jan (at the latest)
21:00 sfan5 actually releasing earlier shouldn't hurt so I we could even start feature freeze this year
21:00 sfan5 and it doesn't look like we have blockers left in the milestone
21:02 Desour if one places an enclosed structure (i.e. so that it is dark inside) into a not yet generated mapblock, and in the mapgen the nodes would be bright, is mapgen supposed to fix lighting after blitting back? and was there recently a change in this area? (context: <https://codeberg.org/Pixelo789/ThinkingWithArrows/issues/14>)
21:04 sfan5 iirc the mapgen runs a light spread after it's done placing stuff
21:04 sfan5 however client_mesh_chunk does not affect the mapgen
21:06 cheapie sfan5: Things like that are kind of why I wish we had telemetry (not that I'm advocating just blindly throwing some in there), would be interesting to see if it's a case of "dynamic shadows work fine on Android dev builds", "nobody uses Android dev builds", or "nobody uses dynamic shadows"
21:09 cheapie The first two sound most likely to me, especially the "nobody uses Android dev builds"... even among Windows users, getting them to use 5.15-dev instead of constantly whining about poor performance is like pulling teeth
21:09 sfan5 according to the serverlist HTTP logs, there have been a total of (what looks like) 3 people using 5.15.0-dev on android in the entire december
21:09 Desour hmmmm, I can't find any light fix/spread in EmergeThread::finishGen and idk where else it would happen
21:10 * cheapie briefly ponders fetching the server list a few times with a client claiming to be Luanti 6.2.1 on Windows 95
21:19 sfan5 rubenwardy could probably produce more accurate user population stats (from CDB), since only people who play multiplayer show up in my logs
