10:55 [MatrxMT] <Zughy> Do we know how many people on the Play Store use a language different to English, to play Luanti?
10:55 [MatrxMT] <Zughy> I need it for the translation talk
11:20 MTDiscord <rollerozxa> the modding book mentions 64% in the translation chapter, which would be from june of 2022: https://rubenwardy.com/minetest_modding_book/en/quality/translations.html
11:22 MTDiscord <rollerozxa> (someone who has access to the play console could give a more up to date number)

12:32 sfan5 top languages: en-US (23%), en-UK (9%), ru (9%), es-US (6%), de (6%), fr (5%)
12:33 sfan5 mind that we only have a bit over 21k app installs
12:33 sfan5 maybe rubenwardy could collect more accurate stats from the Accept-Language headers CDB sees?
12:39 rubenwardy Maybe
12:39 rubenwardy Also this page shows stats on package language support https://content.luanti.org/admin/languages/
12:40 rubenwardy Probs private
12:40 rubenwardy There's a breakdown per language but
12:40 rubenwardy "769 packages support at least one language other than English. ”
12:43 sfan5 (note: the es-US earlier was not a typo, it really shows "Spanish (US)" in the list)
12:55 rubenwardy (en-US, however, was a mistake)
12:57 sfan5 i guess you can safely take en-US to mean "fallback english", it's not like only americans use this locale
12:57 [MatrxMT] <Zughy> Yep, that page is private

13:13 MTDiscord <luatic> i usually use en-US
13:14 MTDiscord <luatic> at least there's no u in color or re in center ;p
13:22 rubenwardy https://rwdy.uk/cJCH1.png
13:40 sfan5 i was going to suggest package downloads per language but actually we don't have this data
13:42 rubenwardy that would be a cool stat for package authors
13:46 SFENCE joined #luanti-dev
14:03 sfan5 could do per country (with geoip) but it's not like the client sends its language when downloading, does it?
14:06 rubenwardy yeah would need a client update to add Accept-Language or query arg to the download
14:07 rubenwardy I was considering adding opt-in usage stats to the client, so active user counts can be estimated, could be part of that so there's explicit consent
