Hello, I want to do some development for Luanti, but need to learn C++/CMake/MSYS2 first. I was able to compile the Luanti source code, but I can't get any C++ projects I made myself (not for Luanti) to compile using msys2 or anything else. Is there something more simple I can use to learn C++? I want to use the best tools for Luanti development, |

but need to learn how C++ works first. I'm on Windows 10, and Visual Studio isn't worth the 20 mins it takes to boot up. Thanks in advance. |

I would advise you to perhaps start with lua modding first to get an idea of what the engine can do, as it's easier to learn and start with that, and you can get more out of it game-wise. There is an excellent luanti lua modding book written by rubenwardy that will help you get started. This isn't really the right channel for general C++ learning chat, there are a ton of open forums about that specifically that would be better suited. This channel is for core |

dev work specificaly, and not meant for generic beginner learning experiences. |

I'm aware this channel is not for beginners, but I figured this was the best place to inquire about the "best" tools for core development. |

Because I was told what I wanted to do (enhanced gamepad support) was not possible through mods. |

<sheriff_u3> CallMeArt: There's an general chat called #luanti, that would be the place ask those sort of questions. |

<ihadaperfectlyfineusername> that question is largely irrelevant. everyone uses what suits them best to do the work they want to do. Ask one person and you'll hear emacs, someone else grunting, and 5 people say visual studio.... |

<ihadaperfectlyfineusername> there's a ton of discussion about gamepad support in github issues and pull requests, the first tool to use would be a browser and use it to start reading 😉 |

Okay, I'll check out the other chat. Thanks anyway 😊 |
