05:04 MTDiscord <sheriff_u3> I've got an idea that I would like some feedback on: So there's a couple minetest-mods organizations, which help maintain a bunch of Luanti mods. Well I'm thinking about a Luanti-tools organization, for maintaining tools that do not use the Luanti engine. (For example my Luanti Node Box Creator web program.) I'm thinking about having it on Codeberg, mostly cause that seems to be where Luanti will eventually end up, though I'm no against
05:04 MTDiscord one on GitHub. Anyways would like to hear any thoughts and suggestions.
05:05 MTDiscord <sheriff_u3> *not
05:06 [MatrxMT] <Blockhead256> that definitely sounds interesting. One of the big things orgs like minetest-mods and mt-mods do is adopt tools as well, and that seems to fit with your picking up the nodebox editor
05:06 [MatrxMT] <Blockhead256> Luanti is pretty decentralised, so I would just start your org now and invite people

11:41 MTDiscord <wsor4035> There already exists a tool org
11:53 bgstack15 Sheriff_U3: Organizations like Luanti tend to own trademarks on the name. If you're not one of the core devs, they might decide you're squatting on the name "Luanti-tools" and get you kicked out. Don't get too attached to anything stored under that namespace.
11:54 bgstack15 So I'm recommending the exact opposite of what Blockhead256 suggested. He sounds more authoritative than me, though.

13:11 pgimeno I'm all for a Luanti-tools org, but IMO it needs to have the blessings of the engine devs (most importantly c55). If it's in Codeberg, that means I could also contribute. I can see minetestmapper moving to that org, for one, and possibly my node finder tool based on it.
13:12 MTDiscord <wsor4035> https://github.com/minetest-tools and https://github.com/luanti-org/modtools exist
13:15 pgimeno oh I see, heads up to @sheriff_u3 ^
13:20 MinetestBot [git] sfan5 -> luanti-org/serverlist: Improve logging ae2f30d https://github.com/luanti-org/serverlist/commit/ae2f30d13e808864d3d977b338fad3d8df45ea5c (2026-04-16T13:15:30Z)
13:28 MTDiscord <sheriff_u3> @wsor looking at those two, it seems the organization is mostly dead (it's most recent repo is archived, and everything else hasn't been touched in years) the other one is a repo under luanti-org, which would make it more difficult to have people add their own repos compared to an organization.

13:35 MTDiscord !tell pgimeno I'll check with them when I see that their on later today.
13:35 MinetestBot MTDiscord: yeah, sure, whatever

13:38 MTDiscord <sheriff_u3> Oh lol, discord doesn't let you see who all is on still, at least in mobile interface, so I didn't realize you were still here.
13:46 bgstack15 Oh, this place is linked to a discord channel?
13:46 bgstack15 I knew some of these fine folks were using Matrix (which I never figured out)

15:03 user333_ the correct link looks to be https://github.com/luanti-org/luanti/releases/download/5.15.2/luanti-5.12.2-arm64-v8a.apk
15:04 user333_ wait a minute, let me look at this a bit more
15:05 user333_ some of the assets are 5.12.2 when they should be 5.15.2 *facepalm*
15:05 user333_ it appears all the android builds are this way
15:06 user333_ https://lounge.swee.codes/uploads/228a86ab21ef0aaf/Screenshot_20260416_120550.png
15:10 Bombo got the link from https://www.luanti.org/en/downloads/
15:10 user333_ yeah it appears the github assets are incorrectly named
15:10 Bombo no update on play store nor f-droid also ... yet
15:11 Bombo how to get from the github page to the releases, i don't see a releases link there hmmm maybe blind
15:16 MTDiscord <rollerozxa> https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/commit/643090e7df2a09234e5d8470763554673399b5ed
15:16 MTDiscord <rollerozxa> looks like 5.15.2 should be built in the next build cycle
15:18 Bombo so when is the next cycle happening? how often does it happen?
15:19 pgimeno Bombo: there's a Releases button, but in case you missed it: https://github.com/luanti-org/luanti/releases
15:21 pgimeno rubenwardy: misnamed the Android releases? is it only the filenames or is there something else that could make them be considered older?
15:21 rubenwardy I had to manually name the files as Sfan5 wanted the builds before the tag was made
15:22 rubenwardy So it's just the wrong name
15:22 MTDiscord <rollerozxa> I believe F-Droid goes between update and build cycles when the previous one is complete. and the last update cycle was finished 8 minutes ago, so I assume a new build cycle will start soon https://monitor.f-droid.org/builds/update
15:23 pgimeno phew, ok
15:23 rubenwardy fixed
15:24 Bombo rubenwardy: thank you for your service ;)
15:24 Bombo pgimeno: ah got it, it's on the right menu, i thought it would be on top, where 'code ... issues ...' live
15:25 Bombo roller: oh so fdroid build cycle ok

17:36 Sheriff_U3 rubenwardy: Would it be ok if I use the Luanti name in an organization name on Codeberg? The name is luanti-tools, others here were saying that I should check with the core devs. (If any of the devs want to weigh in on this, please do!)
17:40 ireallyhateirc the name is not trademarked, so you're free to use that I believe. No one will mind if you don't pretend your org is official
17:44 crazylad Sheriff_U3: well, there is already luanti-tools, which is a VS code extension made by GreenXenith - could be confused for that
17:44 crazylad https://github.com/GreenXenith/luanti-tools
17:46 Sheriff_U3 crazylad: hmm, I doubt it would cause too much confusion though.
17:47 Sheriff_U3 I mean an organization and a tool are hard to mix up.
17:49 crazylad true
17:51 ireallyhateirc just name it minetest-2.0
17:51 mrkubax10 joined #luanti
17:51 Sheriff_U3 lol, I hate to use the old minetest name though, mostly cause it creates further confusion for new users.
17:52 Sheriff_U3 except in reference to MTG of course

18:55 rubenwardy write up about the ContentDB downtime two weeks ago: https://blog.rubenwardy.com/2026/04/16/contentdb-ddos/
19:06 Krock Nice read. Thanks.
19:10 ireallyhateirc rubenwardy, can't you set up Anubis? https://anubis.techaro.lol/
19:10 rubenwardy ah yes I'll edit that into the options
19:17 MTDiscord <bastrabun> Our git is currently scraped, too
19:18 ireallyhateirc which one
19:18 ireallyhateirc if you mean Github then that's Microsoft's problem
19:20 MTDiscord <bastrabun> We're hosting a forgejo instance ourselves. That means it's our problem
19:22 ireallyhateirc use Anubis there. Codeberg uses this too
19:24 rubenwardy https://blog.rubenwardy.com/2026/04/16/contentdb-ddos/#anubis
19:26 MTDiscord <bastrabun> I might. Currently I'm serving a fake page that hopefully bores them to death
19:27 ireallyhateirc how does anubis "break the open web"? AFAIK it just runs a proof of work task, which is only a problem if you do thousands of requests
19:28 ireallyhateirc and it takes like 0.5s on my machine to perform each task
19:28 ireallyhateirc which usually happens only during the first connect
19:28 MTDiscord <luatic> From personal experience, I have had Anubis delay me accessing a website considerably longer than 0.5s, on modern machines.
19:29 ireallyhateirc could be some CPU weirdness I guess
19:32 rubenwardy it replaces a nice semantic HTML page with a JS challenge
19:33 bgstack15 Lol, "on my machine"
19:33 bgstack15 The favorite expression of developers everywhere
19:35 ireallyhateirc Hmmm fair. You could announce the license of the JS correctly, then even people with LibreJS would be able to run it. Unless you're a plain NoScript enjoyer
19:36 ireallyhateirc though that's still better than the service being inaccessible due to a DDoS
19:46 bgstack15 I would never want to compare anybody to L****T Poett****g but he famously says that about systemd and pulseaudio features: they work on his machine for his use case, so CLOSEDWONTFIX
19:47 ireallyhateirc I'll add that label to my projects as an easter egg
20:04 heston76 rubenwardy: Thanks for the detailed blog post
