say you want to make a bunch of nodes in your mod that have placeholder graphics you'll replace later. is there a way to just use text instead of png textures? or a way to quickly produce png from text suitable for luanti textures? |
| 01:30 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> you can piece glyph textures together using texture modifiers. you can probably just take it from https://content.luanti.org/packages/GoodClover/texttext/ |

Apparently LuaJIT does exist for PPC but not PPC64 (big endian) which is represented primarily by Powermacs and older gen IBM POWER servers |

Admittedly, Luanti on OpenGL 2.1, the most recent available on AGP Powermacs, is not _expected_ to work, but what's a girl to do. https://uranus.shadowkat.net/tmp/fa98.png |

boy, it sure would be nice if we had a basic package.loaders function in secure mode that could safely find files in the current module at loadtime |
| 04:19 |
technomancy |
lua's module system is remarkably flexible and it seems like it should be able to be adapted to still be used even when secure mode is on; you'd just have to remove the default loaders, right? |

Hello. Does anybody know how to have a particular account reactivated for the Luanti forums? My first post was my last, over a year ago now; it was for a mod named Ghost-Preview (a pre-placement block previewing mod). For whatever reason my account was banned without notice or listed reason; I archived the post so it can be seen verbatim |

FYI celeron55 ^ |
| 20:21 |
celeron55 |
yeah but when i fix that on the server, it breaks other pages and then people complain about them |
| 20:22 |
celeron55 |
the address isn't just written like that in the code but instead it comes from a convoluted set of constants and then the reverse proxy messes it up even more |
| 20:23 |
Krock |
hm. shouldn't the reverse proxy forward the page as-is, or am I misinformed about that? |
| 20:24 |
celeron55 |
i mean it passes variables to php to let it know what URL the page is actually at |
| 20:24 |
celeron55 |
and then somewhere along the way sometimes there's extra app.php and sometimes there's not |
| 20:24 |
celeron55 |
i'm completely done with it |
| 20:25 |
celeron55 |
i can hand over SSH access if you'd like to try to fix it |
| 20:25 |
One |
[Makes sense, it seemed like this may be an easy fix, leads to something else unexpected, complications... For anybody else wondering, all that was done is removing one 'app.php/' from a Luanti page link [web address] containing multiples [in my case it was two, I removed one and the expected site loaded.] FYI I am behind a CG-NAT. |
| 20:25 |
Krock |
do you happen to have a test environment? I don't feel confident tinkering in production |
| 20:26 |
celeron55 |
no. only production |
| 20:26 |
Krock |
expected yet unfortunate. I also have to admit I haven't yet used a reverse proxy, thus trial&error would be necessary, and that would break the forums temporarily... |
| 20:26 |
celeron55 |
it's fine if it momentarily breaks. just need to backup any files you edit 8) |
| 20:27 |
Krock |
try { new code } catch { old code } |
| 20:28 |
celeron55 |
yeah, this needs someone with a lot of experience with nginx, php-fpm and also with php programs from the phpbb era |
| 20:28 |
Krock |
^ would be nice if web development were this easy. yet, HTML can best be statically parsed |
| 20:28 |
Krock |
hmm but it would be possible to spin up a secondary server |
| 20:28 |
celeron55 |
also, the server OS is nixos. that adds a nice layer of WTF to it also (but it's not too bad) |
| 20:29 |
celeron55 |
of course that's possible. but potentially it's a lot more work than just fixing it |
| 20:29 |
Krock |
in terms of future upgrades and tinkering it surely would pay off quicker than expected |
| 20:30 |
celeron55 |
i'd love a future where the forum didn't exist and i didn't have to think about tinkering with it though |
| 20:30 |
celeron55 |
so i'm not keen on investing in it |
| 20:31 |
One |
Forgive me if this is out of place, is there any way it could become free and open source in its management; community-based and authored so that the burden is shared [potentially]? |
| 20:31 |
Krock |
understandable. If I find the motivation in the next few days, I might as well try it on my own server to get familiar with how phpBB works |
| 20:32 |
Krock |
One: configuration files could be uploaded to GitHub if that's what you mean. though it's barely helpful for anyone other than the serveer owner |
| 20:33 |
celeron55 |
One: the time i tried that years ago caused an almost succesful project and community takeover by a malicious party. so yes but no. only between trusted people, and trusted people tend to be so busy and disinterested about phpbb that it's a no-go |
| 20:34 |
celeron55 |
you just need to think of the forum as a zombie and then messing with it in production feels just fine |
| 20:35 |
celeron55 |
anyway: nixos makes reproducing the server on another machine quite easy |
| 20:35 |
celeron55 |
the OS configuration is declarative |
| 20:36 |
celeron55 |
you copy a couple of files and execute a command, and then at the OS and packages level you have the same system |
| 20:36 |
celeron55 |
then it's a matter of copying the php, data and other files and setting up and importing the database |
| 20:36 |
Krock |
Doesn't the "nix" package manager do all that? NixOS is from my understanding "just" Linux with that package manager and some preset configuration files |
| 20:38 |
Krock |
anyway. minor details... heading off for today. |
| 20:38 |
celeron55 |
the setup isn't exactly vanilla all the way to phpbb. i run a separate nginx and php-fpm under a separate user as a security precaution. same thing for other software running on the same system. so there's the global nginx doing the reverse proxying, and then an inner nginx under the specific user, which then calls php-fpm also as that separate user |
| 20:40 |
sfan5 |
celeron55: make nginx do the equivalent of url.replace("/app.php/app.php", "/app.php")? |
| 20:40 |
sfan5 |
and no I don't actually know how that would be done |
| 20:41 |
celeron55 |
i don't know how to do that. if i could get claude code to run there, i would prompt it to make an attempt, but running claude code on nixos is one of the things nixos is terrible at - i already attempted that and it didn't work out at all |
| 20:44 |
celeron55 |
well on the other hand maybe i could specify the problem and system well enough for a local llm agent to attempt to fix it remotely without destroying everything in the process |
| 20:45 |
celeron55 |
or to create the test VM Krock is asking for |
| 20:46 |
One |
Way over my head ATM. Still at stage 1 in terms of technical ability. Regarding LLM's though, it seems they reach a limit to how many different features they can manage and modify (less than 20 in my experience with Perplexity.ai Pro making simple shell programs) |
| 20:47 |
sfan5 |
actually `rewrite ^/app\.php(/app\.php/.*)$ $1 last;` might just do it |

Would there be a way to share the code on GitHub for temporary experimentation? [The security might be low; guess it is hard [or unmanageable even] to audit each change to any project of this scale.] BTW Luanti is the #1 game platform in my experience. Thank you all for this :) |
