00:50 MTDiscord <jordan4ibanez> Plus if I turn it on I can make it into a game to see how long the circuit breaker takes to trip compiling a program
00:53 technomancy my first luanti patch! https://github.com/luanti-org/luanti/pull/17419 =D
00:54 technomancy also my first C++ written since like ... 2003?

01:24 technomancy say you want to make a bunch of nodes in your mod that have placeholder graphics you'll replace later. is there a way to just use text instead of png textures? or a way to quickly produce png from text suitable for luanti textures?
01:30 MTDiscord <luatic> you can piece glyph textures together using texture modifiers. you can probably just take it from https://content.luanti.org/packages/GoodClover/texttext/
02:08 technomancy oh nice; thanks
03:55 Izzy_ Apparently LuaJIT does exist for PPC but not PPC64 (big endian) which is represented primarily by Powermacs and older gen IBM POWER servers
03:59 Izzy Admittedly, Luanti on OpenGL 2.1, the most recent available on AGP Powermacs, is not _expected_ to work, but what's a girl to do. https://uranus.shadowkat.net/tmp/fa98.png

04:18 technomancy boy, it sure would be nice if we had a basic package.loaders function in secure mode that could safely find files in the current module at loadtime
04:19 technomancy lua's module system is remarkably flexible and it seems like it should be able to be adapted to still be used even when secure mode is on; you'd just have to remove the default loaders, right?
04:25 MTDiscord <wsor4035> I think your just not used to the mod api
04:25 MTDiscord <wsor4035> Since get modpath exists
04:26 technomancy no, I understand how it works
04:26 technomancy it's just clunky compared to normal modules

16:28 Delimitor Hello. Does anybody know how to have a particular account reactivated for the Luanti forums? My first post was my last, over a year ago now; it was for a mod named Ghost-Preview (a pre-placement block previewing mod). For whatever reason my account was banned without notice or listed reason; I archived the post so it can be seen verbatim
16:28 Delimitor (@:https://justpaste.it/e6jf9). My email is delimitor@proton.me. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

17:23 One Hello (again). One; is Delimitor on HexChat; not an intentional double-login. Just testing an IRC client.
17:23 SwissalpS we read ya, One
17:25 One Cool cool. Is it usually this quiet in the chat room?
17:26 SwissalpS it's like the weather: comes and goes
17:26 Krock WHAT DIDYOU JUST SAY
17:26 One Oh, LOL
17:26 Krock PLEASE SPEAK LOUDER SO THAT I CAN HEAR YOU PROPERLY
17:26 One I see...
17:26 Krock !!!!!ACTIVITIY!!!!
17:28 One So, one minute its sunny with the occasional chirping of a bird or two, and the next; you geta Krock-storm strait out of nowhere to blow your house down (so to speak)!
17:28 SwissalpS roger
17:32 One G2G; I plan to leave this IRC client up and running and come back later, interested to see what happens in the meantime. Later

17:32 One Krock-a-wha-now?
17:38 sfan5 Delimitor: it appears you were mistakenly banned because your post looked like AI spam
17:45 One ...now it registered. [Krock-nado, hopefully there are no EF5s incoming, we may have a ban on our hands then]
17:47 Delimitor Thanks for the response sfan5, is there any way to get have the account re-registered with the same email? Removal of the entry from the server's blacklist?
17:59 sfan5 Delimitor: you should be able to login again
18:01 One sfan5: Let me check...
18:04 One sfan5: got the email. Thank you! Reactivated/reactivating, still attempting login...
18:08 One Attempt failed. The original password was not accepted; and password reset ended with "Information The requested page could not be found."

19:38 Krock One: open the developer tools and replace app.php/app.php/  with app.php/  in the form
19:38 Krock that's at least what I'm doing with post reporting forms
19:39 Krock thus I think it's the same issue here
20:16 sys4 joined #luanti
20:17 One @Krock It worked! Deleting one of the 'app.php/' lines allowed the page to load, and the password to be changed; I have successfully logged back in! Thank you!
20:17 Krock FYI celeron55  ^
20:21 celeron55 yeah but when i fix that on the server, it breaks other pages and then people complain about them
20:22 celeron55 the address isn't just written like that in the code but instead it comes from a convoluted set of constants and then the reverse proxy messes it up even more
20:23 Krock hm. shouldn't the reverse proxy forward the page as-is, or am I misinformed about that?
20:24 celeron55 i mean it passes variables to php to let it know what URL the page is actually at
20:24 celeron55 and then somewhere along the way sometimes there's extra app.php and sometimes there's not
20:24 celeron55 i'm completely done with it
20:25 celeron55 i can hand over SSH access if you'd like to try to fix it
20:25 One [Makes sense, it seemed like this may be an easy fix, leads to something else unexpected, complications... For anybody else wondering, all that was done is removing one 'app.php/' from a Luanti page link [web address] containing multiples [in my case it was two, I removed one and the expected site loaded.] FYI I am behind a CG-NAT.
20:25 Krock do you happen to have a test environment? I don't feel confident tinkering in production
20:26 celeron55 no. only production
20:26 Krock expected yet unfortunate. I also have to admit I haven't yet used a reverse proxy, thus trial&error would be necessary, and that would break the forums temporarily...
20:26 celeron55 it's fine if it momentarily breaks. just need to backup any files you edit 8)
20:27 Krock try { new code } catch { old code }
20:28 celeron55 yeah, this needs someone with a lot of experience with nginx, php-fpm and also with php programs from the phpbb era
20:28 Krock ^ would be nice if web development were this easy. yet, HTML can best be statically parsed
20:28 Krock hmm but it would be possible to spin up a secondary server
20:28 celeron55 also, the server OS is nixos. that adds a nice layer of WTF to it also (but it's not too bad)
20:29 celeron55 of course that's possible. but potentially it's a lot more work than just fixing it
20:29 Krock in terms of future upgrades and tinkering it surely would pay off quicker than expected
20:30 celeron55 i'd love a future where the forum didn't exist and i didn't have to think about tinkering with it though
20:30 celeron55 so i'm not keen on investing in it
20:31 One Forgive me if this is out of place, is there any way it could become free and open source in its management; community-based and authored so that the burden is shared [potentially]?
20:31 Krock understandable. If I find the motivation in the next few days, I might as well try it on my own server to get familiar with how phpBB works
20:32 Krock One: configuration files could be uploaded to GitHub if that's what you mean. though it's barely helpful for anyone other than the serveer owner
20:33 celeron55 One: the time i tried that years ago caused an almost succesful project and community takeover by a malicious party. so yes but no. only between trusted people, and trusted people tend to be so busy and disinterested about phpbb that it's a no-go
20:34 celeron55 you just need to think of the forum as a zombie and then messing with it in production feels just fine
20:35 celeron55 anyway: nixos makes reproducing the server on another machine quite easy
20:35 celeron55 the OS configuration is declarative
20:36 celeron55 you copy a couple of files and execute a command, and then at the OS and packages level you have the same system
20:36 celeron55 then it's a matter of copying the php, data and other files and setting up and importing the database
20:36 Krock Doesn't the "nix" package manager do all that? NixOS is from my understanding "just" Linux with that package manager and some preset configuration files
20:38 Krock anyway. minor details... heading off for today.
20:38 celeron55 the setup isn't exactly vanilla all the way to phpbb. i run a separate nginx and php-fpm under a separate user as a security precaution. same thing for other software running on the same system. so there's the global nginx doing the reverse proxying, and then an inner nginx under the specific user, which then calls php-fpm also as that separate user
20:40 sfan5 celeron55: make nginx do the equivalent of url.replace("/app.php/app.php", "/app.php")?
20:40 sfan5 and no I don't actually know how that would be done
20:41 celeron55 i don't know how to do that. if i could get claude code to run there, i would prompt it to make an attempt, but running claude code on nixos is one of the things nixos is terrible at - i already attempted that and it didn't work out at all
20:44 celeron55 well on the other hand maybe i could specify the problem and system well enough for a local llm agent to attempt to fix it remotely without destroying everything in the process
20:45 celeron55 or to create the test VM Krock is asking for
20:46 One Way over my head ATM. Still at stage 1 in terms of technical ability. Regarding LLM's though, it seems they reach a limit to how many different features they can manage and modify (less than 20 in my experience with Perplexity.ai Pro making simple shell programs)
20:47 sfan5 actually `rewrite ^/app\.php(/app\.php/.*)$ $1 last;` might just do it
20:51 celeron55 ok so here's the config. 3 files:
20:51 celeron55 https://gist.github.com/celeron55/be55672e7967e3e40715dca5d3b6bddf
20:51 celeron55 https://gist.github.com/celeron55/034c4d7725cbfad37504fd6c1b172f08
20:51 celeron55 https://gist.github.com/celeron55/f0adb208fc44868a9ea04239e1837b53
20:51 One Would there be a way to share the code on GitHub for temporary experimentation? [The security might be low; guess it is hard [or unmanageable even] to audit each change to any project of this scale.] BTW Luanti is the #1 game platform in my experience. Thank you all for this :)
20:51 ShadowBot https://github.com/luanti-org/luanti/issues/1 -- GlowStone code by anonymousAwesome
20:52 sfan5 add the rewrite rule in locations."/".extraConfig I suppose
20:54 celeron55 well, might as well try that
20:55 celeron55 it's dumb enough to have a chance of working without breaking anything
20:58 celeron55 it's there now
20:59 celeron55 if i'm not mistaken about the link that was broken, it seems fixed now
20:59 sfan5 hm well https://forum.luanti.org/app.php/app.php/user/forgot_password "works" now but because of the wrong path assets don't load
20:59 sfan5 but this might just be enough to fix forms
21:00 celeron55 but the link to there has https://forum.luanti.org/app.php/user/forgot_password as its url now... no?
21:01 celeron55 maybe not
21:01 sfan5 dunno
21:01 sfan5 I don't know which exact form would have the broken path
21:01 celeron55 i'm too tired to even grasp where the issue actually is or was. i think it didn't get worse though
21:02 One The password reset form was the one I tried to access through an automated link provide
21:02 celeron55 can we use you as the test subject? try to do the password reset again and see if something changed about it
21:03 One Yes, if possible
21:04 One Testing the link...
21:05 One The link with double- app.php seems functional now.
21:07 One "Your password has been successfully reset."; attempting logon...
21:08 One "Last visit was: Sun Aug 09, 2026 13:15"; logged-in as Delimitor.
21:18 celeron55 well, it's possibly fixed. thanks for bringing it up and thanks to sfan5 for the stupid-enough fix
21:27 One Thanks for the 'investment(s)'!
21:35 One :) Logging off [for now]...
