cheapie: fwiw I get the same worldgen stalls on a dual processor PPC64 box. sometimes it doesn't seem to get there at all. |
| 00:43 |

cheapie: LJ emits SSE2 code, that's probably why it doesn't work on an MMX machine |
| 00:44 |
pgimeno |
that applies to JIT-compiled code, not sure about the interpreter but it could be the same case; if not, disabling JIT could be an option (LJ is faster than PUC interpreting too) |

<mistere_123> I'm switching matterbridge servers, so testing is rather necessary |
| 01:11 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> gasp |
| 01:11 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> carry on then |
| 01:11 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> but I'll be watching :squint: |
| 01:12 |
[MatrxMT]_ |
<MisterE> as I maintain the chatbridge between matrix (this is also a test). |
| 01:12 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> to make sure the test goes well :D |
| 01:12 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> And it seems that it did |
| 01:12 |
MTDiscord |
<mistere_123> no one quick test in the dev and we're good |
| 01:12 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> you beat me :devtest: |
| 01:12 |
[MatrxMT]_ |
<MisterE> all done |

speaking of i should test something involving one of the bridges |

<jordan4ibanez> What is the weight capacity of that bridge? |
| 01:14 |
MTDiscord |
<mistere_123> We have discovered it in the past, resulting in the kicking of the bridge from liberaIRC |
| 01:14 |
MTDiscord |
<mistere_123> Lets not repeat that |
| 01:14 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> What exactly happened? |
| 01:15 |
MTDiscord |
<mistere_123> Something about too many messages being ratelimited. I think some setting was changed on sfan5's IRC side |
| 01:16 |
user333_ |
yeah libera's bots (ozone in particular) don't get too happy |
| 01:16 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> Wow I didn't even know they rate limited the irc |
| 01:17 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> Now I wonder if you could transmit an xorg desktop via ssh via compressed characters |
| 01:18 |
MTDiscord |
<mistere_123> quintessential Jordan thing to say. Keep it up! |
| 01:30 |

jordan4ibanez: Going by my experience on pissnet back in the day....... yes, yes you can |
| 01:32 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> I can't even begin to fathom the archaic nature of what displays in the virtual xorg window |

runs cheapie through level 9 xz compression |
| 01:37 |
cheapie |
Might take a while if you want to do it on this thing |
| 01:38 |
user333_ |
xz takes forever but i use it for almost everything |
| 01:38 |
cheapie |
I usually use lrzip these days, takes even more forever but compresses notably better |
| 01:38 |
cheapie |
Specifically I use it in ZPAQ (-z) mode |
| 01:38 |
user333_ |
zstd --ultra -22 is also nice |
| 01:39 |
cheapie |
lrzip -zp16 some-100GB-file.tar is very much a "come back in several hours" sort of task |

<jordan4ibanez> cheapie: a lua vm written in lua |
| 01:41 |
cheapie |
jordan4ibanez: Does it have to be direct, or can I stick another level in there by getting Lua code running in RVController? |
| 01:41 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> yeah! that sounds horrific! |
| 01:42 |
user333_ |
lua in linux on rvcontroller on luanti? |
| 01:42 |
cheapie |
One of these days I need to get M-mode and U-mode implemented, then maybe I can see about getting Linux running in it |

xz tends to OOM my devices (notably my RPi1) which is annoying because it kills my other znc |
| 01:43 |

which speaking of i just had to fix again |

gives user333_ a copy of cmix |
| 01:44 |
cheapie |
Takes like 20GB of RAM and needs an hour or two per MB, but it compresses better than basically anything else |
| 01:44 |

good use for my 64gb ddr4 |
| 01:46 |
cheapie |
About the only case where I can actually see it being /useful/ is if you needed to transfer files to some box somewhere that was rather powerful but connected only via dialup |
| 01:47 |
user333_ |
or very, very long time archival |
| 01:47 |
cheapie |
Ehh, cmix doesn't seem really all that maintained lately, I wouldn't count on it working on a modern system a decade or two from now |
| 01:48 |
user333_ |
had to do a bit of work for it to compile on my arch system so probably |
| 01:48 |
cheapie |
That and I'm not really sure in what sort of case you would want to archive a few hundred MB (it's pretty much completely impractical for anything more than that) and yet be short on space to do it |
