tenplus1 |
did you read my comment on git reg. tnt ? |
| 07:22 |
DS-minetest |
umm, not yet i think |
| 07:22 |
tenplus1 |
heh |
| 07:24 |
DS-minetest |
now i read it |
| 07:26 |
DS-minetest |
can't the tnt:boom node be set later? |
| 07:26 |
tenplus1 |
nope |
| 07:26 |
tenplus1 |
the whole point of the explode_centre is to NOT replace centre node... that's why it's an option :) |
| 07:28 |
DS-minetest |
as i wrote it's not consistent |
| 07:29 |
tenplus1 |
it'll default to false meaning it places tnt:boom, but for specific uses the flag is there and it's up to modders to add light or extra explosions |
| 07:33 |
DS-minetest |
just add something like |
| 07:33 |
DS-minetest |
if def.explode_centre then |
| 07:33 |
DS-minetest |
minetest.set_node(pos, {name = "tnt:boom"}) |
| 07:33 |
DS-minetest |
end |
| 07:33 |
DS-minetest |
beyond line 397 |
| 07:35 |
lumidify |
Hmm, is there a way to add extra fields to craft definitions so I can make race-specific crafting tables for LOTT or do I need to roll my own Lua crafting system for that? |
| 07:36 |
tenplus1 |
hi lumidify |
| 07:36 |
lumidify |
Hi tenplus1 |
| 07:36 |
lumidify |
I mean something like adding race="dwarf" to the definition so that I can check if the player is allowed to craft it in my custom crafting tables. |
| 07:37 |
tenplus1 |
not on the craft definitions itself but you can make crafting tables that check race |
| 07:38 |
lumidify |
Yes, but I would need a field in the craft definition so that I know which crafts someone is allowed to make. |
| 07:38 |
tenplus1 |
DS-minetest: what IF one of the nodes a cannonball hits has an on_blast set so it replaces say wood with charred wood, and then all of a sudden it turns into a tnt:boom node ??? |
| 07:39 |
lumidify |
I already made a (very ugly and basic) crafting system at https://github.com/lumidify/Lord-of-the-Test but just wanted to see if it was possible in some way with the default system. |
| 07:40 |
DS-minetest |
lumidify: maybe override minetest.get_craft_result(input) |
| 07:41 |
DS-minetest |
tenplus1: hm, true, i forgot that >_< |
| 07:42 |
tenplus1 |
that's why we have it as an option... :) |
| 07:43 |
DS-minetest |
but still it's not consistent |
| 07:43 |
lumidify |
DS-minetest: What do you mean? So that I can change that to use my crafting system? The function names don't matter, I can use my own functions in the crafting tables, but I wanted to see if there was a way to store the race attribute in the default crafting system - this way I need to store all the definitions myself. |
| 07:43 |
tenplus1 |
ehehehe, it never will be... it's up to modders to add the tnt:boom if they want it, that's the point |

Ohhh... quicker on a hello than you, Ten :P |
| 10:28 |

IhrFussel |
Hello there =) is there a way to get the entity name from minetest.get_objects_inside_radius()? I tried obj.name and obj:self().name ... both don't work |
| 10:29 |
tenplus1 |
ent = object:get_luaentity() ; ent.name |
| 10:30 |
IhrFussel |
Why so complicated ._. |
| 10:30 |
DS-minetest |
object:get_loaentity().name |
| 10:30 |
tenplus1 |
yeah (minus typo) :P |
| 10:35 |
DS-minetest |
object:get_luaentity().name |
| 10:35 |
tenplus1 |
:P |
| 10:35 |
DS-minetest |
an ent variable is too complicated |
| 10:36 |
IhrFussel |
Seems to work thanks^^ But before I use that I should first check if ent is nil right? Or else the code will trigger for boats, players, cars etc |
| 10:36 |
tenplus1 |
exactly, which is why we have an ENT variable :P |
| 10:37 |
IhrFussel |
No, to get the entity first is kinda complicated...that's like "local playername = player:get_playerdata().name" |
| 10:38 |
DS-minetest |
you don't need the ent variable, do obj:is_player() |
| 10:38 |
IhrFussel |
But I want the exact entity name like "mobs_monster:blah" |
| 10:38 |
DS-minetest |
yeah |
| 10:39 |
IhrFussel |
So it still is more complicated than object:name() |
| 10:39 |
tenplus1 |
obj is mob, local ent = obj:get_luaentity() ; if ent then name = ent.name else -nothing here- end |
| 10:39 |
DS-minetest |
local name if not obj:is_player() then name = obj:get_luaentity().name else name = obj:get_player_name() end |
| 10:46 |
IhrFussel |
tenplus1, does the lifetimer go down WHILE mobs attack? I know it will not remove the mob if counter is 0 and mob attacks but I mean does the attack state pause the timer? |
| 10:46 |
tenplus1 |
no |
| 10:50 |
IhrFussel |
Ok so if a mob attacks the player for 3 minutes and then stops attacking it should disappear correct? |
| 10:52 |
tenplus1 |
if a mob spawns with a 3 minute timer and starts attacking player, the timer wont go down until it stops attacking |
| 11:23 |
IhrFussel |
Oh so you meant the "no" regarding the 1st question okay |
| 11:24 |
tenplus1 |
:P |

too bad. I wanted to speed up the lava cooling process by using VManip.. turns out it's slower than using minetest.set_node |
| 12:31 |
Krock |
this only seems to have a benefit when changing > 100 nodes |
| 12:32 |
tenplus1 |
if they make an engine change so that on_flood doesnt affect the same nodes (water on water, lava on lava) then maybe it can be used instead of abm |

indeed |

none to remove, they are now included in default minetest |

tenplus1 |
hi Wayward |
| 14:15 |
Raven262 |
light blue then? |
| 14:15 |
Raven262 |
I mean |
| 14:15 |
Raven262 |
"It shone like moonlit silver" |
| 14:15 |
Raven262 |
A quote from the original creator |
| 14:16 |
tenplus1 |
will see what I can do |
| 14:18 |
tenplus1 |
http://www.colourlovers.com/color/979394/Silver_Moonlight |
| 14:18 |
tenplus1 |
moonlit silver in itself is rather bland |
| 14:19 |
Raven262 |
we can't make it glow, sadly |
| 14:20 |
tenplus1 |
that's prolly why it was made purple |
| 14:20 |
Raven262 |
I would recommend making the lightning in blue |
| 14:20 |
Raven262 |
or purple |
| 14:20 |
Raven262 |
i made silver like this http://i.imgur.com/yFS7wic.png (right one) |
| 14:21 |
Raven262 |
And i think that is too intensive |
| 14:21 |
Raven262 |
for mithrill |
| 14:21 |
Raven262 |
cause it should generally be white |
| 14:21 |
tenplus1 |
will keep it same colour for now... cause many builds prolly use it already |
| 14:21 |
tenplus1 |
but... I can try to put a shilver shine on the textures :) |
| 14:22 |
Raven262 |
:D |
| 14:22 |
Raven262 |
Yes, you are right, it would break people's builds |
| 14:22 |
Raven262 |
I never thought of that |
| 14:23 |
tenplus1 |
as soon as players use it to build we cant change it... that's for texture packs :) which thankfully can be easily made to replace what players dont like |
| 14:23 |
tenplus1 |
make a personal texture pack that turns mithril into white |
| 14:23 |
tenplus1 |
brb |
| 14:47 |
Raven262 |
Ah, i just remembered what happened to my last texture pack. |

hehe, am thinking what new ores to include in moreores redo |
| 15:44 |
DS-minetest |
hm, zinc, molybdenum |
| 15:44 |
Krock |
I saw some new ores on ManElevator (Elevation??)'s server |
| 15:44 |
Krock |
they don't seem to be part of moreores and were added manually or with an additional mod |
| 15:44 |
tenplus1 |
ooh, checking |
| 15:45 |
tenplus1 |
so long as we have uses for them I can include |
| 15:45 |
Krock |
but as always with these ores - they just find a purpose in making tools but are otherwise useless until someone gets technic |

hi bigfoot |
| 18:06 |
Raven262 |
tenplus1, i think that mobs rotating like this look a bit bad, can their rotation be slowed anyhow? |
| 18:06 |
Raven262 |
I just saw a cow rotation 180 degrees in a second |
| 18:07 |
Raven262 |
*rotating |
| 18:07 |
tenplus1 |
not without upping the on_step timer and causing lag |
| 18:07 |
Raven262 |
ah |
| 18:07 |
Raven262 |
you mean you would rotate a specific degree on each step? |
| 18:07 |
tenplus1 |
mobs redo api is very simple and has many features... it's made to be as fast as possible |
| 18:08 |
Raven262 |
Well |
| 18:08 |
Raven262 |
I'll have to murder this poor animal |
| 18:08 |
tenplus1 |
I could switch the random rotation to slight degree's |
| 18:08 |
Raven262 |
Would it affect their pathfinding? |
| 18:09 |
tenplus1 |
it'll only affect random rotation while walking, if following a player it'll use precise rotation anyhow |
| 18:09 |
Raven262 |
Nice |
| 18:09 |
tenplus1 |
watch a sand monster chase you, it's very smooth rotation :) cause it's live update every tick |
| 18:09 |
Raven262 |
Yea i saw it |
| 18:09 |
Raven262 |
I saw monsters too many times already xD |
| 18:09 |
tenplus1 |
will look into limiting walking rotation to slight degrees and see if it workd out |
| 18:10 |
Raven262 |
It would look nice i think |
| 18:42 |
Sokomine |
sand monsters have too short a life in order to be observed closely :-) they can only be watched from afar, when they roam around freely, without bothering about players. the sandcity village type was built for them |
| 18:43 |
tenplus1 |
I could reduce view range a bit |
| 18:43 |
tenplus1 |
so they only become agressive if you get too clos ? |
| 18:43 |
Sokomine |
that might save many sandmonster's lifes :-) |
| 18:43 |
tenplus1 |
view range is currently 15, how about I make it 8 |
| 18:44 |
Sokomine |
sounds like a good idea. it's always such a pity when they have nothing better to do than come chasing |
| 18:44 |
tenplus1 |
the sand people are easily startled though, but they tend to come back in greater numbers later :P |

hey tenplus1 I noticed a while ago that animals like sheep sometimes disappear when kept in captivity |
| 19:06 |
tenplus1 |
mt engine has a glitch where entities can step into solid walls |
| 19:06 |
tenplus1 |
if it does that then mobs can die |
| 19:06 |
tenplus1 |
suffocation |
| 19:06 |
lisac |
:O |
| 19:06 |
lisac |
even my sheep? |
| 19:06 |
lisac |
lol okay |
| 19:06 |
lisac |
just wondering if it can be solved somehow |
| 19:07 |
tenplus1 |
what I did find is that you can place 2 high nodes (fridge) and they cannot walk through that |
| 19:07 |
tenplus1 |
has somethingto do with stepheight glitching them through walls |
| 19:09 |
lisac |
we need a FOSS arcade 3D tanks game |
| 19:09 |
lisac |
like Tanki Online |
| 19:09 |

And yeah I really want an MMO tank game |
| 19:11 |
KaadmY |
Tanki Online sucks because it uses Flash |
| 19:11 |
KaadmY |
And Tanki X sucks because it's Windows and Mac only |
| 19:11 |
KaadmY |
And doesn't run in WINE |
| 19:11 |
lisac |
y and because people can just boost their way to vicory |

they are very expensive if you ain't boosting for it |
| 19:12 |

KaadmY, I'd enjoy even a simple deathmatch with tanks using railguns |
| 19:13 |
lisac |
the slow movement, needing to take cover, tis all fun |
| 19:13 |
KaadmY |
I actually really want to make something like BZFlag 2.0 |
| 19:14 |
tenplus1 |
the sci fi mobs hava a rideable tank :D |
| 19:14 |
lisac |
BZFlag 2 looked a bit ugly last time I tried it |
| 19:14 |
* lisac |
downloads latest BZFlag |
| 19:15 |
KaadmY |
Yeah BZFlag has a "retro styled aesthetic" |
| 19:15 |
KaadmY |
Ie. they don't want to change the textures |
| 19:15 |
Sokomine |
tenplus1: that turning in small increments might help a lot. it's something that hugely breaks immersion if it happens to a large mob, i.e. a cow |
| 19:15 |
tenplus1 |
they should only turn suddenly when looking at player or running away from them |
| 19:17 |
Sokomine |
i'm afraid cows aren't too fast at turning around :-) sandmobs have less of a problem with that. they can turn a lot faster. less mass to move |
| 19:17 |
Sokomine |
btw, are the sunbathing squids in mineclone2/mc-mobs intentional? |
| 19:17 |
lisac |
KaadmY, I just tried this game again. I can't even move properly |

I updated GitHub Desktop to 0.7.0 on my desktop today, and it starts up (ie. becomes fully usable) in 0.5 seconds |
| 19:39 |
Calinou |
that's pretty impressive for an Electron app |
| 19:39 |
Calinou |
it's probably the fastest-starting Electron app I know |

| 19:39 |
Calinou |

| 19:43 |
tenplus1 |

| 19:46 |
Krock |
When's GitHub finally available for Linux? :< |
| 19:46 |
tenplus1 |
isnt it already ? what am I using just now ? |
| 19:47 |
Krock |
uhm.. I don't see any Linux notation https://desktop.github.com/ |
| 19:47 |
tenplus1 |
I have so much git stuff in the repo's... |
| 19:48 |
tenplus1 |
inc. gitlab and many front ends |
| 19:48 |
cx384 |
minetest dose not support big roman letters right? (↠and ↂ) |
| 19:48 |
Krock |
if minetest supports them, they can still fail in irrlicht or Lua |
| 19:48 |
Krock |
so the chance is low |
| 19:48 |
cx384 |
hm ok thank you |
| 19:53 |
kaeza |
AFAIK, Irrlicht supports UTF-8, and Lua is 8-bit clean, meaning it has no notion of "encoding"; strings are just a block of random bytes |
| 19:54 |
kaeza |
maybe your font doesn't have that glyph |
| 19:55 |
tenplus1 |
am surprised something as up to date as lua 5.2 doesnt support unicode |
| 19:56 |
kaeza |
"as up to date" |
| 19:56 |
Calinou |
Krock: it's not officially supported on Linux, but some people got it to compile there |
| 19:56 |
tenplus1 |
5.3.4 even |
| 19:57 |
Krock |
Calinou, oh nice. |
| 19:58 |
kaeza |
tenplus1, Lua simply does not care about encodings. valid UTF-8, invalid UTF-8, UTF-16, SHIFT-JIS, a PNG file in memory, whatever, it's just a block of bytes as far as Lua cares |
| 19:58 |
Krock |
kaeza, we have good fallback fonts, so they should be displayed without problems |
| 19:59 |
kaeza |
it's up to the host how to present the data to the user |
| 20:00 |
kaeza |
(5.3 has basic UTF-8 support as a `require`able module, IIRC, but that's the stdlib, not the language itself) |

Just random words in a string, I'm limited by how fast I can read |
| 21:46 |
Calinou |
kind of, yeah |
| 21:47 |
KaadmY |
Also it keeps shifting down the lines so I keep reading the wrong line |
| 21:47 |
KaadmY |
And it doesn't help because the words are random, it's hard to find where I was reading from last |
| 21:47 |
Shara |
