<landarvargan> All the windows users in my area have no idea how to extract and play a game from a zip file. They want a setup installer like the Github Actions make, similar to programs like Steam (SteamSetup.exe), Open Office, Browsers, etc |

<landarvargan> NSIS with start menu/desktop shortcut options would work |

<exe_virus> Hurm, nsis installers is the right amount of filter I want for desktop windows players. I don't think we want those who can only use the windows store. |

<wsor4035> if we care about winget at all https://github.com/microsoft/winget-pkgs > MSIX, MSI, APPX, or .exe |

i'd continue to distribute the run_in_place=1 windows builds and make a sfx executable installer or MSI installer as well |

(MSI is probably better as it looks more legit than a standalone executable would) |

luatic: Yes, I can test it. What should I look for? |

with EGL 3.0 driver, of course. |

<landarvargan> .exe vs .msi isn't really a problem AFAIK. Windows doesn't even show file extensions by default |

Oh, right, I tend to forget about that, @landarvargan (because, fixing it went on my Windows-installation checklist decades ago). So yeah, most users probably wouldn't even notice the difference. (Which is *scary* from a security perspective, but whatever, 80% of all Windows systems have malware on them anyway.) |

(And that's not in any way shape or form an issue this project can be expected to fix.) |

what are the odds my windows system (windows xp ;-;) has malware on it after being connected to the internet for several weeks? |

<luatic> yes. |

<luatic> SFENCE: thanks for testing, if skeletal animation works as expected that's a good sign 👍 |

user333_: it depends on whether there any open ports in the firewall. If there's zero traffic, then you also have zero risk. Things change as soon as you actually make use of the internet and download content you probably shouldn't. Using the most recent browser version can help, but does not prevent loopholes. |

luatic: Nothing unusual on moving player or moving monsters. |

landarvargan: The difference is that .exe bundles can usually be extracted manually like any regular zip file, whereas for .msi you'd need msiexec /x or alike, which is less intuitive |

also great to hear that GPU skinning works :) |
