15:47 jonadab In my experience, it's sometimes easier to compile from source on Linux, than to install the manufacturer's pre-built binaries on Windows.  Especially for non-mainstream software, which usually doesn't come as a proper .msi.
15:49 jonadab The exception is, of course, if you want a specific brand-name of software and are not willing to use off-brand, in which case, some of it is only available at all for Windows.

15:50 jonadab As in "How do I install Splashtop Streamer on Linux?"  You don't, you just use openssh, like the sensible people.
15:51 jonadab Granted, most of the software I have experience with is inherently of a technical nature, system-administrator stuff, developer stuff, and so on; and so that's not really fair to Windows because that's pitting Linux' strengths against Windows' weaknesses.
