Greetings, ever since a few months back I am having trouble with my minetest game. The content of the game window turns blue. I have experimented with the opengl options in the in-launcher menu, but opengl did not solve it and ogles2 is not supported according to the debug.log. I installed a lower resolution texture pack in case i was running out of memory. That did nothing as well. The last thing I want to try is to change the renderer itself. |
| 12:35 |
meta |
What ever configurations i made the "about page" still reports 4.6/opengl3. How can I change away from the 4.6 renderer? |
| 12:39 |
meta |
The debug log does not show an error at all and while i have enabled opengl debug no opengl errors appeared in the log. |
| 12:41 |
meta |
I am running 5.16.1 on Linux Mint with the Mesa driver. GPU is an intel i3 6100 integrated graphics. |

<luatic> meta: are you compiling yourself; can you compile it yourself? if so you can compile with ogles2 support and try that. |

<meta> I also do not see the opengl debug.log, despite minetest.conf reporting "opengl_debug = true" |
| 13:45 |
sfan5 |
the warnings - if any - will go into debug.txt |
| 13:45 |
meta |
Core profile not explicitly requested. Compatibility profile is not supported. |
| 13:46 |
sfan5 |
^ that is to be expected when using renderdoc |
| 13:46 |
meta |
Yup, I looked in debug.txt i am just more used to .log for these kind of things, my mistake. |
| 13:47 |
meta |
I will go mine some blocks, and be back once i see blue. |

<luatic> maybe for a different question, does luanti otherwise remain responsive? |
| 13:51 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> e.g. do walking sounds still play when the window is blue and you walk? |

I do not have sound enabled. I can check, but I just got it to blue. |

The renderdoc overview was gone as well, but I remembered the f12 key and took a shot just in case we need that. |

Capture has 888 issues. That does not sound good. |

How do i get something useful out of this? |

<luatic> you can share it with us for one |

<luatic> you can also look at the (many) events (mostly drawcalls) yourself |

I send it by clicking on your name and selected send a file. My client shows an offer. |

when I open the capture on my pc the scene renders "fine" but all textures are corrupted |
| 14:17 |
sfan5 |
if I had to guess there is a problem with your video driver |
| 14:18 |
meta |
All other things on my pc are running fine thou. |
| 14:18 |
sfan5 |
games or standard applications? |
| 14:20 |
meta |
Both. But I don't run heavy games on it (iGPU), but Silksong runs great. |
| 14:21 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> meta: for a very wild guess, can you see if setting array_texture_max=0 in settings seems to fix the problem? |
| 14:22 |
meta |
The heaviest I stress this machine with is propably minetest. @MTDiscord in minetest.conf? |
| 14:22 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> meta: yeah. though you can also do it in-game in the settings gui. |
| 14:24 |
meta |
Variable set restarting now. No update on the sound thou, had not crashed yet. |
| 14:25 |
meta |
I shut it down before editing the conf just in case that is brought up. |

Nope, now it dies to a black screen, no sound: https://x0.at/black_screen2_CCug.rdc |
| 15:15 |
meta |
Black_screen1 i saved wrong, so we have to use the second one. |
| 15:17 |
sfan5 |
this capture too renders correctly when I open it locally, but again all textures are corrupted |
| 15:17 |
meta |
This took longer than all the other runs i had so array_texture_max maybe did something |
| 15:17 |
meta |
usually it dies a lot faster |
| 15:20 |
meta |
What i would like to know is what are these 591 errors renderdoc tries to point me to. |
| 15:26 |
meta |
I am no expert on rendering, but what would prompt a texture reload? The textures were used before, so them suddenly corrupting reads like a failed refresh. Something that under normal conditions just reloads the textures but here loads junk for some reason. |

No, I just looked it up. Still, I would like to know how to get to these error messages. |
| 15:34 |
meta |
Not sure if it could be solved like this, but is there a command in luanti that loads the textures which i could bind to a key to see if that recovers it? Not having textures would explain monocolored screens i think. |
| 15:58 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> i don't think it would |
| 15:58 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> even without textures, a lot of the rendering is just primitives + color |
| 15:58 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> the crosshair for example is drawn as two colored lines |
| 15:59 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> not having textures would look differently, more similar to what we can see when we replay the renderdoc capture (everything looks wrong, but the general shapes of things are still right) |
| 15:59 |
meta |
Is there anything more I could try? |
| 16:00 |
meta |
What hangs me up is that array_texture_max=0 actually changed the error. |
| 16:01 |
meta |
It was blue for a split-second before it went black. |
| 16:02 |
meta |
Also this was the longest it ever ran before crashing. |
| 16:05 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> well, you could always research whether there are known driver bugs, try to upgrade your drivers |
| 16:06 |
MTDiscord |
<luatic> this looks like some sort of memory corruption that affects the driver, we may be far into "anything can happen" territory here |

Maybe i will try compiling the most recent release instead. There seem to be a few updates in there that i would not like to roll back. |
