<Bracket> I can't see where the function for that should be, do I just do show_formspec? |

<Blockhead256> I was going to complain about the lack of colour, but this actually shows the importance of texture/shape because it manages to still be interesting |

Yeah, I could add color I suppose, but I'm not generally great at selecting said colors :P |
02:41 |
cheapie |
At any rate, it managed to... not be this, so good enough I guess: https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250321_214052.png |
02:42 |
cheapie |
And also not this: https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250321_214211.png |
02:42 |
cheapie |
...and also not a lot of other stuff, most of my older buildings all kinda looked about the same |
02:43 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> yeah I mean those look like you built a rectangle, a lift shaft and forgot to add any interior walls |
02:44 |
cheapie |
"rectangle and a lift shaft" describes most of my buildings |
02:44 |

Sometimes they had stairs, sometimes not, otherwise the only variations were which shade of gray/white/black it was, the footprint, and the number passed to //stack |
02:49 |
cheapie |
There's another semi-regular (used to be full-blown regular but he hasn't been on much in a while now) on the same server that builds approximately the same things, usually minus the //stack y 20 step, and kinda half-heartedly furnishes them. Not naming any names but they're not in here. |
02:49 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> no stairs? You have to have an emergency exit! |
02:49 |
cheapie |
Lately I've been doing somewhat better with having a stairwell, or often two, and exit signage |
02:50 |
cheapie |
Although in one building I settled for "in case of fire do not use elevators - use /spawn" signage near the elevator |
02:51 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> haha if only teleportation were an option in leaving more buildings IRL |
02:51 |
cheapie |
If I ever add OEO to celevator then that might open up more possibilities |
02:57 |
cheapie |
This is what I mean with that one other player: https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250321_215252.png |
02:58 |
cheapie |
That's a "casino" |
02:58 |
cheapie |
5660 of basically the same slot machine. Really 3406 are one kind and 2254 are a different one, but you can barely tell by looking at them. |
02:58 |
cheapie |
At least it has *something* in it I suppose, that's farther than I tend to get sometimes |

[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> back in the olden days, the state of Victoria banned gambling but New South Wales had gambling. They'd pile all the people onto a bus and go to country towns on the NSW side of the border to go gambling |
03:00 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> the carpet is better in the tenor gif |
03:01 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> actually "fancy carpets" would probably be a good mod to have, for all your casino & club needs |
03:02 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> anyway this shows that creative and worldedit make it easy to build on a large scale, but without much content |
03:02 |
cheapie |
He claims to not have used WE on that building for anything but flattening the lot. IMO he probably should have, it would have looked about the same but been faster |
03:04 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> you can fit a lot into a small area actually. I'm pretty proud of [pine flats](https://forum.luanti.org/viewtopic.php?p=437642&hilit=pine+flats#p437642) |
03:04 |
cheapie |
The contrast between some of the restaurants off to the side is kind of funny, he built some of them and recruited other players for the others. |
03:04 |
cheapie |
https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250321_220306.png is right next to https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250321_220321.png |
03:05 |
* cheapie |
nods, that is a rather realistic size, a little concrete-y for an apartment maybe though |
03:05 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> that never stopped the soviets |
03:06 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> I suppose you could throw down some carpet. The problem, as ever, is you have to build 2 nodes thick between layers if you want the ceiling and floor to be made of different stuff |
03:06 |
cheapie |
Yeah, User11 usually does 2m floors, I usually don't |
03:06 |
cheapie |
(I'm fine with naming User11 there, his builds are great these days) |
03:07 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> user11 already sounds like a name that was changed to protect someone in court :P |
03:07 |
cheapie |
The player that built that "casino" (not User11) tends to do 3m thick walls, with a clay(!?) sort of "framework" in the middle |
03:08 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> opinion: most black asphalt roads with the yellow/white markings are way too contrasty. Moreblocks tar is actually a realistic amount of dark for road surface |
03:09 |
cheapie |
Yeah, probably, the asphalt texture in roads just came from streets, I didn't make it |
03:09 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> most builds in MC or LT make this "mistake" imo |
03:09 |
cheapie |
LT? |
03:09 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> luanti |
03:09 |
cheapie |
ah |
03:10 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> and anyway, why not have fun with alternative paving like bricks, cobblestone or gravel? |
03:10 |
cheapie |
I've done a few gravel roads, somehow that seems to signal everyone "hey, build right here" and then the gravel makes no sense any more |
03:10 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> ah that's how it works though :P you build a basic road, then seal/improve/metal it |
03:12 |
cheapie |
There is one that kinda did stay "middle of nowhere": https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250321_221131.png |
03:12 |

https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250321_221140.png https://cheapiesystems.com/media/images/screenshot_20250321_221147.png |
03:13 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> maybe today is the day I adapt streets signs to australia... |
03:13 |
cheapie |
It's also the approximately one time I've had any of those "compressed dirt" mods actually be useful |
03:14 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> compressed dirt is always useful when you don't want the grass to grow |
03:14 |
cheapie |
Sure, but we have other "dirt but not really" nodes that do that too |
03:15 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> we do? compressed dirt is my usual one, you must have different mods |
03:15 |
cheapie |
"we" = VE-C |
03:16 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> this is different from Dreambuilder creative.. yeah it seems |
03:16 |
cheapie |
VE-C is the "VanessaE Dreambuilder creative server" or whatever, yes |
03:16 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> I need to put the URL field in more of my password manager entries |
03:17 |
cheapie |
Among other things, there's a "dirt glass" node from camo that looks like dirt from most sides, but has a (opaque, thanks 5.9) window on one |
03:17 |
cheapie |
Or you can place a cottages dirt road node upside-down |
03:19 |
[MatrxMT] |
<Blockhead256> so I do have an account according to my password manager but maybe it has a cleanup script? anyway... |
03:20 |
cheapie |
I'm not sure if it's still enabled but we at least used to clean up players after some time, yeah |
03:20 |
cheapie |
I think it was something like 2 weeks if you didn't have interact, 1 year if you did, never if you had any elevated privs, or something like that |
